Wood gets the start in a 4-2-3-1 formation via FOTMOB. Excited for this since I haven't seen him play in some time!
'2 Wood fights to get the ball in the 6 yard box, but only can head it into the ground at the keeper.
Hamburg is really playing more of at 4-4-1-1 with Wood and Hahn switching switching every now and then. This team is dismal in position and I've seen a lot of soccer tennis happening. When they do try to retain possession there are hospital ball moments that leave you shaking your head.
'24 Great first touch on a 50/50 ball from Wood to his teammate, but the second pass is lost to the other team... A reoccurring theme this morning.
'30 Wood receives the ball in the attacking half of the field and tries a through ball that is cut out.
'33 Woods receives the ball well and knocks it over to Salihovic, who then brings Diekmeir into play but Augsburg snuffs out the progress.
'45 Caiuby sends in a beautiful cross from the left channel and Koo splits the defenders to smash it home with a header. Augsburg takes the lead at the death of the 1st half. Augsburg lead 1 - 0
HT - Not good. I'm not sure where Wood's motor has gone, but Hahn was the engine in the forward area. Wood looks like a candidate to be subbed off within 15 minutes in the second half, because he keeps unnecessarily drawing physicality when receiving the ball and has very little movement in the attacking area. The match overall got better after 30 minutes for both teams, but Augsburg has looked better and more cohesive.
'51 Wood receives the ball well which is played off and he makes smart run to eventually get the ball back. Wood then turns and dribbles forward finally drawing a yellow from a sliding challenge. Much better spell from Wood!
'55 Excellent chest control allows Wood to turn his mark and dribble forward. No one is really in a great position to support and Wood strikes from 25 yards forcing a save at the back post. Again, much more lively from Wood, but dismal positioning again overall from Hamburg in the attacking half.
'71 Wood finds the open space well receives the ball and retains possession on an outlet pass. They need more simple play in the attacking half.
'72 Hahn finds Wood centrally at the top of the box, but he dribbles into two defenders once he gets the ball.
'74 That's the end of Wood's day as he's subbed off for Ito. Strange because Wood picked up his play big time in the second half. He did looked a little gassed, but so does Hahn who has been non-existent and probably would have been a better candidate.
Match finished 1-0 Augsburg. Hamburg just cannot put it together season over season. Bobby looked much better in the second half and had much smarter movement. His one shot was from distance but he did well to get it on net. Unfortunately, his lacked the engine that he's known for and looked out of shape. Hard to see Hamburg surviving if they can't put it together in the attacking part of the field.
