I think you nailed it. It's really to help stop the famous Barca unsettling of players they love doing. Ok the player only wants you? Fine he's 100m + 100m.
Because we have the power to say we'll waive the clause and accept the 150? It's there as a deterrent to keep them from doing what they did to us with Coutinho, not to keep them out of bidding for players that are otherwise leaving.
I'd be interested why this was leaked at this time. Why would the club put this out? It's curious it came a day before Mane signed, so perhaps its related to him dragging his feet or perhaps his agent is the source.
