No thanks. We have enough good, young keepers that are probably better anyway and will play behind Guzan - Johnson, Hamid, Cropper, Irwin and the youngest, and possibly most special of them all - Zack Steffen.

The funny thing is that Mexico's best GK prospect is a kid who was born and raised in the US and is FC Dallas' 3rd choice.

Mexico loves them light skinned blue eyed Mexicans. I predict Yarbrough will be in every ad over there if he isn't already. For example look at Canelo Alvarez, he was never a good boxer but was hyped up over his complexion.

You said British...(And Yarbrough is a British name)..Which leads me to ask a strange question...

Is William Yarbrough eligible for any other team? Sure his folks are American, but has it been asked if his folks have say British or Irish ancestry? Because I know for a fact that he would immediately fit in to Ireland or Scotland's programs. Heck, it would be hilarious if Mexico snub him and 3 years from now, he's suiting up for Wales in World Cup qualifiers. I mean, Landon Donovan could have suited up for either Canada or Ireland, and most Americans players can suit up for more than one nation, so I am keen to know exactly who else can cap him.

I happen to agree with you................but you can never have enough. :)

The reason you state is the reason its not going to happen. Guzan is the #1 thru the 2018 World Cup. This guy isn't at Guzan's level. So would he turn his back on the nation where his "heart is," in order to fight it out with others for a backup role with the USMNT? That's not an upgrade to his situation with Mexico where he'd probably be in the same fight next cycle.

I'm sure the USSF has at least contacted him to gauge his interest.
We know that the USSF contacted Cirilo Saucedo at the start of the cycle for instance. And he's significantly older than Yarbrough.

so basically castillos love for Mexico was not near the level of yarbrough. so that guys previous statement comparing the two is fooolish. Castillo is a merc. Yarbough, based on that interview is legit.

Interesting. Have not heard of this kid but as it's been stated, seems his heart belongs to Mexico. Plus, he has a full head of hair which is a no-no for U.S. goalies (Tony Meola excluded due to him starting before this law).

It wouldn't' surprise me at all if the USSF contacted him. It appears that they contact any guy with a US connection, no matter how tenuous it is (for example Thomas Delaney). I guess you could call it doing their due diligence but in Delaney's case, I find it a bit of a stretch.

b-but...but...his heart is with Mexico! :ROFLMAO:

Funny how he's keeping calm on which side he chooses now that he's become more of a 'prospect' for USA.

Prior in stuff I've found mainly on youtube, he's come out and stated in spanish he's mexican and lived there all his life implying he'd play purely for mexico. Now he's more 'cool' on playing both sides staying out of picking a side he's rooting for lol.
This kid is no dummy/neither is his agent.

What are your thoughts on this kid, friends? Better than Hamid and Johnson?

its mls site, so not sure i trust that. its sort of like reading bleacher report.

Or it could be true and he is now backpeddling. not a good idea to backpeddle. Usually these wishy washy backpeddlers get pwned in the end.

    Who knows.........................

This smacks to me of a case like Isaac Brizuela.
The second Brizuela said he was "open" to a USMNT callup..................Mexico called him up to the Gold Cup. [Whether he was/is good enough or not.]

You gotta use whatever leverage you have. By at least suggesting that he hasn't chosen a side yet (even though he recently accepted a callup to Mexico's U23's in 2012).................he's putting pressure on Mexico. And if they decide to pass, I'm sure the USMNT will be there for him.

To soon to tell. None of them are finished products as GKs and they all have big upsides.

I don't know the Mexican GK pool very well, but if I'm Yarbrough (if you're a certain age you'll have trouble not calling him Cale) I'm looking at the US pool and saying "OK, little chance for 14 but No. 2 to Guzan for 18 and the starter for 22 is realistic if I can beat out Hamid and Johnson. Do I have a better shot there or in Mexico?"

Here is Luis Montes interviewing William ¨Yogurt¨

Personally, I think the kid is a little overrated and the fact that he looks 100% american but with perfect mexican spanish adds to the curiosity of it all.

He's either trying to be respectful to both sides to keep his options open, or leveraging for Mexico to call him up.

If we're dissecting the direct quotes, what difference does the source that reported them make?

As for this topic...Goalkeepers with options are under a little bit different circumstances than field players, since they only play one position and only one of them can play. I would never fault a goalkeeper for changing directions if the path to seeing the field in an international game comes from a different shirt.

It's one thing to make bold statements about which country you want to represent when you're young and you don't know how your career is going to pan out, but now that it appears Yarbrough is of international caliber it's perfectly rational of him to keep either door open until a meaningful opportunity to play presents itself.

This, of course, has nothing to do with preference. It's clear he's a patriotic Mexican and would prefer to play for them. But as a professional, you never wanna close that door until a clear opportunity emerges.

My eye is on Cody Cropper to be the guy competing with Guzan the next two cycles.

Zack Steffen, the GK at Maryland. He really looks like something special. I'll be interesting to see if his next move is from college to Europe or college to MLS. He could go either way, but what he needs will be games.

    eh?

Brizuela had already played for Mexico's U20 squad and was part of the Pan American squad in 2011 and barely missed the final Olympic cut.

He had a good season with Atlas and later on stated that Luis Fernando Tena had already been in touch with him and mentioned the 2013 Gold Cup as his next opportunity.

Looks like USSoccer is certainly "catching" up, with that kind of journalism and fans that eat it up.

Eastwood is one of the good posters and of the few that has good knowledge of the Mexican league. Maybe his take is wrong here but he shouldn't be treated like a wessoman either.
