What are your views on the staggering transfer fees being tossed around these days? Not long ago only the best players in the world would see transfer fees paid in excess of £30m, whereas now it seems to be the norm when snapping up a semi-decent player. The English Premiership in particular continues to see an increase in the money being paid - this article sums it up nicely - http://www.thestatszone.com/articles/summer-transfer-spending-too-much. Some of those graphics really highlight the staggering numbers involved these days, compared with the early years of the league. Surely it has to stop somewhere??
As long as the revenues continue to increase then yes, the transfer fees and salaries will increase massively as well. People thought £7m was enormous money for Andy Cole 20 years ago (and it was relative to United's turnover). PL clubs are going to be generating vastly more this season than previously so it's no wonder the prices keep going up.
True - looks like there's no end in sight. The disparity between between the top and bottom clubs in a concern, but hopefully they will now get a fairer slice of the TV pie, so to speak.
