    Re: Provincialism

almost none of what you're saying pertains to the point of this thread.. the point ive made over and over is that mls is a young league just coming into its own.. now that the quality is coming around, getting people to believe in the league on a bigger scale is the next step.

and catering to the demographics of the soccer fans in your community is a huge step in getting new fans into the league. mls, and the galaxy in particular have failed miserably in that regard... but i agree that the chicago fire made a huge step forward in signing blanco, even though personally i cant stand the guy

as far as the highlighted part of your post, i have no idea what youre talking about because i never said any of that and i didn't see anyone else say that either

Because the price tag is super high on younger players. Younger players also have something to prove while they are in there prime. You forget these over-rated over the hill guys have huge fan bases. Thats what MLS wants. They want these Icons no matter age to bring fans to the game so they can pay better players to come here, increasing the level of play, increasing the fan base etc.. its a circle MLS has to go through to increase the game little by little.

Yeah... Thats why Fabio Capello said it was a very big mistake to let Beckham go.

Have you ever watched Beckham play in your entire life? The guy never had a step to lose in the first place. Hes always been slower than death. He has pin point crosses and great free kicks. Not to mention he knows the game very well which is why he was englands captain, not cause he was good at kicks. Hes a leader.

I dont even know what to say to you Soccergoalie.. Your just a ********in retard. You keep saying its boring "and its the truth" but you dont even watch the damn league or follow it. Sitting down watching 1 game not knowing a player out there of course its going to be boring. If you turn on a MLB game, an NFL game or a NBA game having never watched one before you would be just as bored. You have to follow a league.

Maybe because i know all the lineups the players even the reserve squads... I dont know.. maybe im crazy because I happen to like to be able to go see the revolution play every week. Doesnt bother me at all to put money in there pocket as long as that money will eventually lead to a better product on the field that hopefully some day can rival la liga / EPL. and someday when im 50 or something i can say yup, see this ticket stub, yeah its the ticket stub from MLS cup 1.

Bucky, see the problem is European thinking to American thinking. We americans (ok many of us americans) really lack that type of loyalty. I personally believe in it, but I mean, My father born and rised here in Massachusetts was a Yankees fan. (btw, I have a ticket stub from the only no hitter in World series history... Don Larson :) )

I really wouldnt blame the guy for being a CD Chivas fan. My mother was a NY Giants fan long before the Patriots were even an NFL team. She still likes the patriots but shes a die hard Giants fan. Cant blame her, she has been following them since 1955. like 14 years before the Patriots were established. She couldnt just turn her back on the team and I would never expect anyone to turn there back because something new came around. I actually admire that type of Devotion to a team.

Gosh1976 That movie really hits home. Thats why I love MLS. I have been watching the Revolution from day 1 season 1. I watched them when they sucked, when the league sucked, but i watched and supported them. and someday MLS is going to be the biggest league in the world squashing all the leagues in the world, and I can sit Gillette with 68k fans and go..ahh i remember when we were in foxborough and only 9k showed up for a game :)

I dont believe that for a second. Any team other than ManU would take him in a second, and only reason ManU wouldnt take him back is because he and Sir Alex have some bad blood now. Hell the amount of shirts the guy sells alone would buy 2 or 3 more high quality players for a team. MLS pays him 250 million over 5 seasons, They guy hasnt played a game and they have already made 20 million on him .

Im not sure if you read the MLS forums much, but thats actually something that we debate on the MLS forums all the damn time. especially my beloved Revolution who probolly havent forked out my personal weeks pay in advertising and marketing this year.

how do you figure? The galaxy have sold out the stadium for the entire season before it even began. what else do you want from them?

I am not angry, I respect your personal opinion about MLS, obvisouly the league its not for you and thats fine, we love MLS and I think that you should respect that and move on.

Again, thats your personal opinion and not a fact. In order to make your claim valid and with somewhat of a value post facts attached with a link.

Who is everyone? Are you talking about critics and the media?

No one is offended, you know why? because its your personal opinion. If you think MLS is boring and the refs are horrible, More power to you. The funny thing here is that in order for your to judge and evaluate the referees that must mean you watch MLS games.

I can only speak for the team I support but he is too slow for Arsenal, thats a fact. Even if he was a faster player, his wages would be too large for our team and because he is 32 years old Arsenal would only offer him a one year contract, and look at it year by year.

I stand by the opinion that he is past his best now, and is in the same situation as Viera was when we sold him, he had reached a certain age and was past his best, so I don't think Arsenal would want him now.

So what does it matter if the US beat Mexico or beats them. If you know your facts the US beats Mexico when they play in the US and since most of the games are played in the US that has been the case. I wonder why the US doesn't play other teams here since no one will go since when it's Mexico vs. US it's all Mexico fans.
The US is not respected as a national team and never will be until they win a big tournament which they have never done.
Mexico has beat Italy, Brazil, Argentina, Holland in recent years and the US only beats up on the central american teams in a weak CONCACAF.
Another point the US national team has a weak counter attacking style that plays not to get scored on and Mexico plays offensive and if you look at all the Mexican players going to Europe Mexico will beat up on the US for years to come. Carlos Vela Arsenal, Giovanni Dos Santos and his brother Barcelona, Nery Castillos Greece, Pavel Pardo and Galindo Stuttgart, Andres Guardado, Memo Ochoa Mexico has a bright future and not to forget they won the U17 World Cup.

Anyone ever heard of the beap test? Well it is pretty intense. and guess who are the only 2 people in the world to complete it? BECKHAM and Roberto Carlos. When Beckham was at his Peak, he was one of the best conditioned players in the world. So just cause he's not as fast as in previous years means nothing. Ronaldo has been playin great for Milan lately and hes not fast either. but he can still rip shots. Beckham i think will also help boost the morale of Galaxy. and the MLS is not boring at all. If you dont like soccer then sure, but soccer is soccer. just cause they dont have any rondinhos doesnt mean its boring.

I am man enough to eat humble pie, and I just didn't think it was likely he would still be able to play for England when he is in the MLS league.

You should be able to note that it wasn't me that made the original post on the topic (note the different names). You asked for a link, I posted one even though a simple Google on your part should have ben able to find one. It took me all of 30 seconds to do so myself.

OK, my point was, although not made very well admittedly, that millions around the globe have taken part in a beap test. My amazement is that only two people in the world have completed it. Even more amazed that these two should be such global superstars.
Although this is an amazing claim, its not necessarily unbelievable, I was just wondering if there was a link?-directed at impactsoccer30.

    Haha, I agree...
And what's race honestly have to do with it? It's all about your passion for the game. Not if you're from the US, Mexico, England or wherever!

(Also, Arn't we on a 7 year winning streak on US soil against Mexico?)

    Beep test

I googled around and it apears that yes, David Beckham can complete the beep test! But I don't know how old he was when he did it.
The influx of over 30's players can bring experience to young Soccerstars. I think that's a good thing, however they should not be paid more than the average MLS player.

    Re: Beep test

Professional sports franchises are in the entertainment business. Actors aren't necessarily paid for their acting ability but are paid for how many seats they will fill when the movie hits theaters. Professional athletes are the same, entertainers who entertain by playing a game. Michael Jordan was not only a great player but he sold out stadiums wherever he played (even though he was never the highest paid player except for the last few years he palyed). Players are paid for how many fans they will bring to the stadium when they play there. Beckham games are selling out all throughout the MLS so he will make more money than another player whose presence brings no one extra to the stadium.

Now before the lamenting starts that sports should not be a business, realize that in the real world a business must make money to survive. If professional sports was not a money making endeavour there would be NO professional sports. That is the way it is so live with the reality that a fan favorite will make more money than a fan unknown no matter how well he plays the game.

    That is life....

    In the heart of the
The reason you won't find a soccer superstars in the MLS is simple. Money. The same reason you won't find a superstars playing basketball in Europe or baseball in Japan.

They later tell us David Beckham is one of the only athletes to have achieved the unthinkable by successfully out-running the beep’s 20 levels.
