Hey RG is this the "flor de pelotudo" de que hablaste? um well diego i think it's called form , he wasn't in form i guess. Piojo started losing it at Lazio due to frequent injury . And to my knowledge i haven't remembered a national team call up for any player who was playing in Mexico 'cept for Cesar Delgado . Wich is why i think he was overlooked , he was good but not the best . and him going to club America didn't help him as much as it helped club America... I guess my point is if you want to play on the national team you need to be good enough to play in Europe or Argentina . Mexico is not really a world stage for futbol even though the league is very compettitive...
LOL! One day someone says Jose Sand should be playing for the NT, another day another person says el Piojo Lopez should have gone to the 06 WC.. What's next? "Why isn't Victor Zapata the captain of the NT?"
Could have? Sure. I am an Argentine citizen, I could have been part of the 2006 Argentina WC squad. Hell, technically anyone could have gone to the WC and attended it as a spectator. Your point?
I don't know why I keep coming into these threads. I guess after a painfully long week, I love me some serious talk, yeah. I'll bite then. Do you mean I think he could have gone as in "I think Mauro 'Basile:Laspada es Argentino' Laspada could have gone to the 2006WC" or as in "I think Claudio Lopez should definitively have gone to the 2006WC". If it's the latter, would you mind sharing with us what makes you think in such fashion. If it's the former, well then.
Hmmm...Does Korea/Japan in 2002 ring a bell? The debacle that was that WC? When Claudio was part of a trident up front that produced next to nothing in 3 games. Decent player and all but since there aren't an infinite number of spots on the team, whose place could he have taken?
I remember that Chelito was called from Mexico. He's the only one I can think of right now, off the top of my head.
Oscar Ruggeri played the 93 Copa America while at America. He had history with the team though. Chelito played already covered. Figueroa was on the Copa America team and Olympic team in 04 while playing for Cruz Azul. Pocho Insua got called up for some friendlies and the first games of the qualifiers in late 07. Hector Miguel Zelada was on the team when you guys won the World Cup in 86.
Add to that 'Cata' Díaz while at Cruz Azul and Fabricio Fuentes who had just transferred to Villarreal from Atlas (I suppose this one doesn't count though). Now there's two on the current list, Vilar and 'Chaco' Giménez of Atlante and Pachuca respectively.
