My wife was back home in Bulgaria this summer...they are televising MLS over there. With Bulgarian-language commentary.
yep pretty sure it's shown all over Europe on Eurosport (except UK where it's on Sky), and Eurosport has local language commentary in every country.
"Cincinnati’s new soccer team has posted ratings on WKRC-TV (Channel 12) and affiliated stations that have topped better-known national sporting events and even beaten the vaunted English Premier League’s local ratings." Link
I wonder who the commentator is... it can't be Stoichkov, who is doing Spanish language commentary here in the US.
It's probably Gheorge Hagi. He remains silent most of the game than out of nowhere, comes out with a stunning call.
Eurosport owned every sport in the early 1990s from turnip chucking from dyke vaulting but from memory the only two sports they invested in were track and field and Formula One. I do remember vividly Ayrton Senna's death throws being shown on Europsport while the BBC tastefully cut away (bYT). I think Discovery bought them a few years ago and are trying to make them more competitive. Bear Grylls
It's the off-season in most of Europe. It's filler, but I'd guess there's a bit of genuine interest as well.
I spend my Monday mornings commenting on Bulgarian newspaper match reports - Първа професионална футболна лига sucks! Nobody cares about your poxy little cabbage patch "Euroleague". It's like watching NPSL but worse. Why are your crowds so small? Why do you name your teams after trains? When was the last time you got into the Semi-Finals of Copa America? You suck!
My friends that are still alive are mostly Italian. They love Italian football. In the morning we watch games in our area and play ourselves in an old men's league. When we are not playing we drink a little wine, bread and cheese. It's a fun day better then playing bocce. If you ever played bocce everyone is yelling and cursing and sometimes a punch is thrown.
