Wonder how long til this poll gets jacked :p

I went with 2000... anytime you beat Saudi Arabia twice in Asia Cup with a combined score of 5-1, you've earned it.

I'd have to go for the free-scoring Japan side of 2000 as well.

(I still get mad when I remember Hamza Idriss missing that penalty )

Imo Saudi Arabia was the better side in the return match.
Japan was missing Inamoto and the Lebanese fans supported Saudi Arabia, though.

Close between Japan 2000 and Iraq 2007.

Japan was an amazing team back then but Iraq's run in 2007 was a little bit greater IMO.

The final match between KSA x JPN

Saudis totally dominated the entire match, missed a penalty and were unlucky not to beat Japan

Japan played all the matches (except for the final match) with complete domination. Saudis dominated the Final match but were so near yet too far.

2000 final was agony. We were close, Japan's goalie was spiderman that day. I can't believe how he stopped Nawaf AlTemyat's shot that bounced from the ground.

In terms of Football? Like the beauty they played, the way the team was cosntructed etc ... I'd go for Iran's 1968 cause we beat Israel :D or Japan's 2000 performance, wow, some ridiciulous scorelines like 8-1 win over Uzbeks, 4-1 win over Iraq, 4-1 win over Saudi ...

That game could've lasted hours without a goal for Saudi. Kawaguchi was just from another planet that day.

The penalty from Hamza Idris was quite crappy then, though.

Any idiot would have predicted that Hamza would miss the penalty. His "inaccuracy" in front of goal is the stuff of legend. I wonder whose idea it was to let him take it.

First of all, the whole "surprise" story-line was just propaganda from the Western media. Iraq has always been strong in Asia, and this particular group was almost entirely foreign-based and had finished 4th in the Olympics. So, I actually predicted them to beat Saudi Arabia by 2 or 3 goals, but (surprise, surprise) during the match they were too busy hacking, kicking, and acting during the final that they forgot to go and knock in some goals, even though they had almost all the possession. Anyway, Iraq in 2007 was very strong and deserved the title, but a team that plays such dirty, ugly football cannot possibly be chosen as the "best winner" in Asian Cup history. Sorry.

I was very close to placing a bet on 2-0 for Iraq right before the final :D, but I wasn't able to evade the Saudi block on betting websites. Again, Iraq's win was not a big surprise to anyone who had done some actual RESEARCH.
