Here's the press release on the Aztex site. ...and are they using our scarf again? It's really fun to see that there's actually good communication going on between the MLS and USL teams. Makes me think that, competition aside, there's a whole lot of good going on as well.
hey now hey now. You lads notice the 'white" tassle on those scarves. First Lyle now Dave and Ryan, good choice of neckwear me buckos.
David Sias did get time in the Columbus Crew, having started in the first half and playing all game. During that showing, he played defense.
So, to make a sweeping generalization, Sias played center back against the Crew, and we didn't give up a goal. He's not listed anywhere (starting or sub) against RSL, and we give up 3. Looking like our center-back tandem might be Bernard-Sias?
http://nativeaztexan.blogspot.com/2009/03/austin-signs-two-more-players-watson-s.html Silas was Big West Defender of the Year while playing for UC-Irvine. So is "Yellow Card Machine" Caugherty now our USL-1's version of EZ?
From the current roster, here's my starting 11, plus the subs: (We're playing a 4-3-3, unless maybe it's a 4-3-2-1 or something) GK Miguel Gallardo- Aparicio 6' 1" 180 lbs D (c) Wes Allen 6' 0" 175 lbs D (c) David Sias 5' 6" 145 lbs D (r) Lyle Adams 6' 3" 195 lbs D (l) Josh Alcala 5' 9" 167 lbs M AJ Godbolt 5' 10" 175 lbs M Yordany Alvarez 5' 10" 166 lbs M Ryan Caugherty 5' 6" 145 lbs F Gifton Noel-Williams 6' 3" 198 lbs F Sullivan Silva 6' 1" 175 lbs F Eddie Johnson 5' 11" 185 lbs D Kieron Bernard 6' 3" 190 lbs D Gareth Evans 6' 1" 202 lbs D Zach Pope 5' 6" 145 lbs M Alex Tapp 5' 9" 185 lbs M Jarius Holmes 5' 8" 160 lbs F Kyle Brown 5' 11" 165 lbs
I like it. I hope Josh Alcala does get signed. Even though he's appeared in all of the matches so far (to my recollection), he's the only one on the roster that is not signed (to my knowledge). I would also wonder if Zack Pope would not start instead, as so far, he's started in the left back position in a majority (if not all) games so far.
Y'know, I had Zack there originally, then seemed to remember him on the right side, and switched in Alcala. (Don't know if he's signed, but he's listed on the roster, so I put him in.)
I haven't heard anything about Josh being signed yet, but have always been a fan of his ability to work whatever position he might be in (last year if you remember, he played in the midfield).
So... there maybe a few Stoke City boys who come over to get some regular playing time, is the rumor? Does anyone have any ideas who these players could be, and what positions they will play? And would they have to wait until the summer transfer window to play for the Aztex?
Just noticed another signing announcement on the Aztex site: midfielder Mike Callahan from UNC. And (yet again) mining 3rd Degree's treasure trove of college scouting info, here's what Buzz said about him after last year's College Cup final between UNC & Maryland:
Matt?! Did you sell some Army scarves on the sly cus Mike's got one too. That now makes four signed players, for sure, that now have Chanticos knitted mug in their possesion.
Damn, you've found out my secret cartel... I would imagine that they're not giving the scarves to the player since they ran out of the Austin Aztex versions, which is why they're using the Chantico's Army units. The Army gave 2 scarves to Phil and Kay as thanks for all they've done, and I think the scarf in the Lyle photo is the leading actor, while the ones in today's photos are stunt doubles. * No silkworms were harmed in the writing of this blog.
Awesome! ...though I'm not so sure about the '19' number. If I remember right, he was listed on this page before. No more new ones have been added, and the list there has 17 players. ...nm. I see that the Aztex front page says '19'. Sweet! We're well on the way! I wonder who (besides Caugherty) is missing from that roster page. If I remember right, Yordany Alvarez still hasn't been announced.
Speedy left back with good skill. He never signed with RSL, was just in training camp during preseason. Buzz at 3rd Degree picked him as his favorite at the MLS combine but he went undrafted. Was the starting left back last summer for the Michigan Bucks in PDL. Anyone know if he's still in Austin?
Naw man, I wish he was still with us tho he is now with fellow USL expansion club Cleveland City Stars im not sure if he signed yet
OK. So, I'm starting to wonder. We have a crazy opening stretch of games. And we still only have 18 players listed on the roster. I expect that it's likely that Sam Reynolds will be signed. And maybe Ryan McMahan (played for KC in '06, but wasn't able to find anything else on him) and Jamie Franks, who we saw in the Islanders game. That still leaves us 5 short of the league max. And less than two weeks before our first game. I'm feeling OK about what we have. I guess. But it would be nice to see more than 18 on that page, especially after seeing the Islanders rotate out the entire team at the 60th minute.
Hey guys according to this. www.uslsoccer.com/teams/2009/roster/13380700.html Sam Reynolds has indeed been signed, well done for him if so, it's the least Inchy can do after his PK saving prowes were demonstrated against the Islanders. Also another Ryan, Ryan McMahen, anybody got anything on him?
