Watching the Toronto/ATL semifinal. The game ends, and while I'm looking at and (once again) ruing the loss of Justin Morrow, suddenly the face of Jon Conway fills my screen.
Fresno Bee: No solid footing: The backstory on why Fresno’s pro soccer club folded after two seasons In addition, the team seemed to have outsized expectations with regard to ticket sales. At the time, Yallop said “the goal” was to equal Sacramento Republic’s mark of 5,500 season tickets. Which didn’t seem all that realistic, given the differences in market size and income levels. ... Perhaps as a result, the Foxes never got anywhere close to their season ticket goals and averaged 4,831 fans their first year – far behind fellow expansion club Las Vegas (7,266) and even second-year Reno (5,066). At the same time, team sources say Yallop and head coach Adam Smith earned annual salaries of roughly $200,000 and $115,000, respectively. Those figures are believed to be among the highest in the USL. “We had this little joke around the office: ‘Everyone with an English accent gets paid the most,’” said a former team employee, speaking on the condition of anonymity. Beshoff does not believe the salaries were exorbitant: “Frank’s record in MLS speaks for itself,” he said in an email.
Poor Frank! He can’t catch a break since Doyle messes with him... Yallop did make $400-$500k in the last three years so I guess he won’t complain too much...
That is more than a little judgmental and small of you, Falvo. That was over ten years ago, and if you read the original article, it referenced testing positive for substances purchased over the counter at a vitamin store. You really need to give people the sort of consideration you might like in a similar situation.
Dude, first of all, I was kidding so lighten up! Secondly, as far as having a similar situation, I’m not a public sports athlete or coach! Also, by the grace of God , I don’t and never did drugs therefore , I won’t ever have that same problem.
Pretty shitty of Rico not to mention his Supporter’s Shield winning season with the Quakes. Wow. Not very nice Rico. Not nice at all. Go Quakes!! - Mark
Republic fired Simon Elliot yesterday. He was at the end of his contract and it was not renewed. Search for new coach and tech staff starts immediately.
Poor Simon. The guy has had a weird career as a player and coach. I’ll never forget how he was cut from the Quakes , then played in World Cup 2010 for New Zealand and was voted man of the match against world champion Italy. Not too many players in the world have a resume like that. I don't follow the USL but he made the Conference Semifinals which isn't bad... Although he never played with the Quakes, another local product, Benjamin Ziemer who was Simon's assistant and ran the Ziemer Brothers Soccer Camps in Santa Rosa was also let go yesterday by Sac....
What a sad Sac! Simon will land on his feet somewhere. Republik need to hire a coach who can take them into MLS, and I don't mean Frank. It will be interesting to see how Republik develop their brand, style, and club. Go Quakes!! - Mark
Yallop made $200k as a Fresno executive! That’s pretty good considering he hadn’t won anything since 2012!
I think it’s about as much as he made with the Quakes... His wife though is still up here in LOS GATOS selling houses. If she earns 3-5% off of each LG or Saratoga home , even selling 3 houses a year , she is doing well. A lot better than Salinas... I think Frank interviewed with the Quakes recently but not exactly sure in what type of role.
Why did they let Simon go? Is he the reason that attendance fell off so badly? Isn’t Todd Dunivant the head of the FO? He is gone too? I guess I could just look this up, but maybe you have some inside stuff to add?
Are you still a kiser There isn’t much online. I’m assuming the club is looking or preparing to begin MLS play in 2022. As has been the case with other expansion teams , FO’s had begun planning ahead a year or two in advance of their inaugural season. Probably why Simon and Dunivant are gone.
