Clearly, he's got some degree of recent involvement with the game in the U.S. based on this (admittedly, vague) tweet. Perhaps anyone who sees news reports or knows more will share it here. Great few days mtg with all the stakeholders of the game in Washington State! Now down to LA for more mtgs and back to Tokyo over the wknd! pic.twitter.com/ecahGLKWkM— Tom Byerトム•バイヤー (@tomsan106) July 20, 2017 It does look like he was at the DCU-Sounders game.
Garry would call him a soft wuss, beat him over the head repeatedly in an attempt to draw out an inferiority complex, and repeat an assertion that Byer has no idea how much he doesn't know, over, and over, and over, and over again.
I'm joking more or less. 'm sure Garry is a fine guy in person. Just shows a tremendous lack of self-awareness on twitter. He doesn't realize he's yelling at everyone.
Yeah I can understand that complaint. Personally I appreciate another voice in the discussion and I like his passion (or whatever you want to call it). I know it rubs people the wrong way and I don't agree with everything he says, although it seems like there are a number of disciples who do, but it's nice to hear different takes imo.
Definitely, I disagree with plenty but I wouldn't follow him on twitter if I didn't value his perspective. I wish he'd find a way to convey his message without directly making sweeping blanket attacks across the U.S. soccer landscape, I think he'd reach more ears.
People like him don't realize that being thoughtful, articulate, and respectful with your ideas get the people you want to change much more receptive and accepting to change then to disparage, mock, and belittle them. Not really a mind blowing concept but for many who lack self awareness it is. He's actually do a disservice to change because people just block him out as background white noise. Gary Kleiban I have some advice for you. Many of your ideas are sound, change the way you present them and come up with workable solutions instead of publicly trying to embarrass people.
Its also true that Gary Kleiban isn't part of the US soccer establishment. If he wasn't Brian Kleiban's brother, who's trying to change the system from the inside...................we wouldn't pay any attention to him. He'd be no different than any number of people who bash others via social media. I really have no clue why Gary Kleiban makes it into so many threads. Meanwhile folks who actually are achieving things can be ignored. He shouldn't be more known on these boards than a guy like Matt Pilkington.
Talk on player development is never boring imo. @Clint Eastwood from a distance I was aware of some of the great work Bethesday-Olney had done in the past decade. I was also aware of the great work NYCFC Academy have done very recently. When you don't go actively seeking recognition and broadcast your accomplishments in seek of individual credit, you won't always receive it directly, but people will still unknowingly appreciate your work. I wouldn't know who Tom Byer was if it weren't for a post on BS years ago. Props to Matt Pilkington I just connected the dots.
Now we can answer the question @Dave Marino-Nachison posed in his thread title. Tom is coming home. This could be verrry interesting for youth development in the US. https://www.si.com/soccer/2017/10/26/tom-byer-us-soccer-pilot-program-seattle-sounders-japan-china
Wow. Really cool what Tomsan is doing. Would love to see those programs in action. Also, I wonder if his children are coming to the US and how quickly we can call them up to the US national team.
Just need to remind folks that what Byer is doing is the essence of grass-roots and is not something that pays quick dividends. This is like a slow-growth stock. Won't make you a big profit in a year or two but in 20 years you'll be able to have enough to start to plan a good retirement. We won't see the impact of Byer's plans on the field in the US till the 30s. The 2030s. That doesn't mean we shouldn't do it. But this one will require a lot of patience. (For MLS fans, this should be no problem!)
Nice catch. Saw it this morning and haven't been able to break away and update this thread -- thanks for posting.
Don't have Sirius. Would love to know the story behind this: Tom Byer signed a 6-month contract w/ US Soccer for his pilot program, "Soccer Starts at Home." The program never got off the ground. The story of its demise & the federations lack of interest on #TheCoachingAcademy @SiriusXMFC 2pm/7pm ET @tomsan106 @GrantWahl @WAYouthSoccer— Glenn Crooks (@GlennCrooks) May 23, 2018
Basically he told Flynne, " With this new program, we wont need to have Michael Bradley walk around the pitch for 90 minutes anymore", .................he was immediately escorted out by security.
Romeijn is US Soccer's Director of Coaching Education. So disappointing. I have never met Nico Romeijn but offered to pay out of my own pocket to fly to Chicago to present him with our concept and plan. I never got a reply to my offer. https://t.co/HU5HdBn6WM— Tom Byerトム•バイヤー (@tomsan106) July 3, 2018
Tom Byer knows those that hold power here don't want any real change nor are they willing to do what's needed to become a true global player.
Call him again? He's probably never seen Japan play. They gave Belgium all they could handle. Perhaps now his pitch doesn't seem so far-fetched?
No reason to call him again. Tom's too busy with all the other countries begging for his services. Recently he's been jetting to Europe and Russia to help them.
Houston, we have a problem. Apparently 600,000 Kids have dropped out of US Soccer and there doesn’t seem to be a plan to fix it. Wasn’t there a “Soccer Starts at Home” concept that was going to focus on the 23.7 million Kids U6? Oops, that was canceled. https://t.co/wTiYryGjws— Tom Byerトム•バイヤー (@tomsan106) July 15, 2018 He's been much more direct since the USSF dropped his plan. Probably got a look at how corrupt and dysfunctional it all is behind the scenes.
