Grillitsch also deserves a mention. The kid continues to shine and showed great composure in an important game. For me, he's earned himself a solid spot in the starting XI.
Up next we draw Gladbach in the Round of 16. Not gonna be an easy opponent of course as they've been red hot since making the coaching change. But that's fine, no success comes without a challenge. Anything can happen in the Pokal.
Grillitsch left last game with a knock, but said he's fine now and should be ready for the cup match. 4,000 #Werder fans will make the journey to Gladbach for the DFB Cup game against @borussia_en. There will be tickets available on the day.— SV Werder Bremen EN (@werderbremen_en) December 14, 2015
http://www.bild.de/sport/fussball/werder-bremen/grosses-winter-finale-43799338.bild.html Lots at stake in this game. In total we are looking at a potential combined gain of 1.5 Mio gain if we win this roun from ticket sales and DFB prize money. These are funds currently not scheduled in our budget, and can go a far way towards acquiring potential winter transfer moves. Gladbach still have a very strong squad but if there's a fair time to face them then it could be now. They have several key players missing and have just come off that big loss against Leverkusen. Hope our team goes into this game fearless and ready for battle.
Missed the game live due to work, but wow this is easily game of the year for Werder. Incredible display of team effort, 4 goals on the road at Borussia Park is no easy feat. Offence definitely clicked, everything came together nicely. Onto the quarterfinals we go!!
I was watching it at work and lost my mind in the middle of a meeting after the Pizza and Ujah goals. Grillitsch and Ozti really give us some speed and distribution that we have been missing.
Klar, vor allem ans Pokalfinale. ☺Ich drücke euch die Daumen, dass es in der Rückrunde aufwärts geht✊ @werderbremen https://t.co/7AQXGc3uc5— Mesut Özil (@M10) January 8, 2016
Trying to tune to the game during work, exciting first half so far. Chicharito gets them off to the lead, but Santi Garcia answers quickly to level it.
YES!!!!! Penalty awarded to Werder, Wendell sent off with a red card. Pizarro aces it for the 2-1 lead.
Beautiful counter attack to create the third goal. Öztunali with a great run along the flank, evades a tackle along the way, and send over the cross to Pizarro. Grillitsch there to tap in the rebound. They're complaining about it offsides. But I don't care, the goal stands.
Honestly think that Werder should Switch Grillitsch and Junuzovic. Junuzovic should play on the left, Grillitsch in the centre where he looks much better than on the wings.
Agreed. Grillitsch's skill set and instinct makes him more suitable as a CAM or secondary striker. Main thing he needs to work on now is building up strength. He still tends to get out-muscled sometimes on the duel.
There's a good chance that Lennart Thy will take Pizarro's place in the match against Lotte. He's worked hard this summer and is getting praise from Fritz. http://www.kicker.de/news/fussball/dfbpokal/startseite/658588/artikel_thy_das-lob-vom-kapitaen.html
Start1️⃣1️⃣ vs. Lotte: Wiedwald - Gebre Selassie, Sané, Moisander, Sternberg - Fritz, Junuzovic - Yatabare, Kruse, Bartels - Thy. #SFLSVW— SV Werder Bremen (@werderbremen) August 21, 2016
Currently down 0-1 after conceding on set piece in the opening 10 minutes. Our team's play still looking pretty sluggish, haven't came back with many clear chances yet. Yatabare and Bartels I must say have been notably poor.
