let the battle for MLS ownership begin... http://kstp.com/news/stories/S3470334.shtml?cat=127 http://www.bizjournals.com/twinciti...ngs-announce-partnership-to-pursue-major.html
i know this might be a silly question but have current United fans and fans of future Minn MLS who want it owned by those who have a proven track record of supporting soccer in Minn (instead of by NFL interlopers) shown their support for the United et al bid at events and such ... to MLS execs ... to make it clear that the soccer scene in Minn does not support the NFL bid? with the way fan support helped Philly and other places it might be something to think about if it isn't already being done. don't want to see another MLS team in a market with the potential of Minn in the hands of another NFL owner.
More good news out of Garber's mouth Obviously hoping for the United bid to win, but if Garber is going to try and force a joint bid I would hope it is similar in looks to the composition of Seattle. With United taking point and the Vikes along for the stadium only. I'd rather see that than no MLS there at all. And if the passion that led to the Kicks being a big draw in the original NASL is still there I don't think they would necessarily be out of place in a larger stadium.
I would be absolutley stunned if MLS hasn't done their research of the 30 plus year history of soccer in the Twin Cities. It's looking good.
Great find! I hadn't actually considered the possibility that Garber and the league themselves could try to broker a deal between the two teams. I still don't ever want to watch a soccer game in that stadium, but if it means the team is United, I can't say I'd be too broken up.
Does anyone think it may be a possibility that MLS decides to wait out the five year exclusivity that the Vikings have on the new Stadium? They could have a Sounders type of situation, without the Wilfs, at that time correct? I personally hope not, but it could be wild scenario.
I doubt they want to wait five years, Garber sounds bullish on Minneapolis right now, and if past form holds that means things are very close if not done save for final details. We should be hearing soon who the next team or two teams are. My guess is Miami (officially) and Minneapolis in 2018 or 2019. Someone local can answer who will actually be running the stadium if it is the Wilfs then expect United to pay through the nose to use it if the Wilfs are not involved, in which case an SSS is not only desirable but a necessity if United is to thrive.
Until Miami gets their act together, they're finished. It wouldn't surprise me if the BOG has decided to put Miami on the back-burner for now until things improve. It's Minneapolis and Sacramento for the next expansion. Book it.
Does anyone know one way or the other if the new club will retain it's current name? The reason I ask is I know that DC United had some sort of proviso which made them the sole users of the name "United" within MLS. It doesn't matter to me because I think its sort of selfish in a way. I just wanted to know if that has been changed. Anyway, congrats to Minnesota soccer fans.
