Because all the other rules of indoor soccer are completely in line with the game and not farcical at all. As Mitch Hedberg said of glow-in-the-dark Cheez Whiz: "It's not like the product had any integrity to begin with."
And that's why I'm fine with MPS (but don't feel as strongly as, say, Tommy Tanner). It's already a gimmicky game. Embrace that fact.
I'll file that on the pro-MPS side as the "Indoor soccer sucks so it might as well have stupid rules" argument.
Again, we have to clarify: Not having a problem with MPS is different from not having a problem with some teams playing SPS and some playing MPS. I'd prefer SPS, but I'm not going to get militant about it (just like the DH, which I used to fight tooth-and-nail). My issue is with the conflicting codes and the underlying reason for it, and the even-farther-under-lying stupidity that makes it so.
Not at all. It's really more along the lines of "indoor soccer with boards is more interesting when it continues to distinguish itself from futsal and gives more points for long-range shots than it does for scrambling the ball over the line in the box."
And none of us thinks indoor soccer sucks. We've had a succession of indoor soccer leagues that have sucked. Because they've done stupid stuff.
I tend to take indoor soccer more seriously than most on this board, likely because I grew up with indoor soccer being the only top-level soccer I knew (I was in diapers when the NASL folded). Heck, I didn't realize they played the sport outdoors until I was seven (saw my first outdoor game on TV at 10 and in person at 14 years old).
So did anyone watch last night? I watched the first quarter and a half. It was not competitive. Missouri simply playing at a different level than Dallas. Good thing it was SPS -- with MPS, Missouri would've been pushing 30.
You missed the best part when they interviewed Tatu after the game the question was: "What did you learn about your team tonight?" He simply laughed.
But he was 100% in calling out his players. They played like a bunch of amateurs. They have a much younger team this year. Tatu's finely coiffed hair may start falling out by game 4.
I just love the arguments that Rochester and Syracuse should be this or that because they had more attendance. I would give more weight to the argument if it said, hey we deserve more of this or more of that because we padded the attendance figures or we gave every kid a free ticket when they came with a parent. And that was by self admittance by their owners by the way. Kind of goes with the same statement that MPS brings in more fans.
Only on smartphones. If you do it through a laptop you can watch ESPN3 online. Its the "Watch ESPN" app that doesn't have DirecTV user access sadly.
I managed to see it too. Not sure why I didn't have to log in to my provider. So be it. Wasn't a very good example of "major" soccer.
