At least Schweinsteiger is 32 going on 33. Its still better than signing a 37/38 year old forward but its too bad they couldn't sign him before he went to Man United when he turned 31.

Bastian Schweinsteiger's move to Chicago Fire almost collapsed after the MLS side issued an ultimatum to Manchester ... Mirror.co.uk In a poll 92% of Mirror readers think "he's still a great player".
Agreed. This is one of those stories that will be twisted to fit the prevailing narrative desired. For those wanting to poo-poo MLS or justify why he's not elsewhere he's simply a player past his prime that "obviously" isn't wanted by any team with "something meaningful to play for." Cause as we all know, if you can't cut it with the oligarchy of Europe's biggest clubs, you're a s*** player! That being said I'm not sure this is the best move for the money for Chicago. While he's still a capable player I'm curious where he'll play considering their recent off-season acquisitions. He's not a goal chaser a la Robbie Keane, so do they suspect he can play a slightly deeper role feeding forwards but ahead of Dax and Juninho?

I have no interest in talking to anyone who thinks MLS is a retirement league. I prefer to speak only to people who actually have watched some games.
You don't have to watch ANY games to recognize steaming horse shit when you see it. Yes, MLS does sign the occasional big name European player who might be a little long in the tooth, although I think in this case calling a 32 year old guy a retiree is simply evidence of the usual anti-MLS bias. Then again, "bias" and "the Guardian" go together like "Al Franken" and "election fraud". But i digress. Bottom line, screw them and their sillyass, worthless opinions. Schweinsteiger is still a strong player and is being brought in to contribute on the field, not swan around like Lother Mattaeus.
Schweinsteiger brings a very important ingredient to the Fire- leadership- yes he has slipped in his performances and pace, but his drive and inspiration will be a critical addition to a Fire team that has had little of that in the past 3-4 years- its a good signing as long as he can pass a physical test that will allow him to play at least 60 minutes in a game- bastien can be a difference maker for chicago's 2017 season IMO
Its funny though. Not all but many of the big name superstars who have come across have called MLS a very tough league to play in. I think it was Alessandro Nesta who stated the players run forever but the only thing that is lacking is the technique and maybe better tactics. One thing is certain and I think many foreign players would agree, it's not an easy league to play in.
Reminds me of how Cassar ended up there on the first place. When Kreis was named head coach he called up his old buddy Jeff to come handle the keepers. Problem was, Cassar was still on an active roster with Dallas. RSL got hit with a big tampering fine and Kreis got called to New York for a stern talking to. Funny how things worked out,
Didier Drogba linked to continuing illustrious pro career with a USL club TwinCities The mighty has fallen of the pecking order. I am shocked no MLS teams were interested in DD.
So did anyone actually read the article in the Grauniad and not just the headline that the writer probably didn't write? First paragraph: Seemed a fair article to me. Highlights the positives and also echoes what people round here have said about it on the negative side. The writer is positive about MLS in general. Really not sure what the problem is with it.
Most of the comments are from people who didn't read the story, just like their article on the Chinese media and the national team.
Maybe Hearts of Oak will partner with the Brooklyn Brewery and Los Templados with the Latino owned Dyckman Beer Company.
If the author wants to discuss the merits of signing Schweinsteiger, then he should't have buried the lede with a bullshit headline.
