OAR is a crap band. Sorry. The best anthems are campy and familiar songs. They also must be a little bit humorous - think Stoke's Delilah or West Ham's Forever Blowing Bubbles. Very odd choices, yet they work because they are weird. I think an anthem will emerge one day when someone is just singing a random song and the rest of the crowd latches onto it. It won't be a message board thing. It won't be orchestrated. It will just happen. That's how the best ones emerged.
Whoa there home slice easy on OAR If you want a campy sing a long, we should just do "Shattered" by OAR. Road Outside of Columbus is great, but I dont feel it is an "Anthem" so much. But I would be cool with it
The Sons of Ben chose "I'm Looking Over a Four Leaf Clover" No deeper meaning at all, just a happy song that everybody knows.
******** all this weak ass "gay" stuff! We need something like this [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vgSn0SbQJQI"]YouTube - Danzig - Mother[/ame]
O A R not Oar. Of A Revolution. aka the only Columbus related band that has made it pretty big (at least in the college kid demographic) Not the greatest band ever, but decent and they are adopted Columbus boys
This is what a successful Columbus band sounds like. [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tbZEbJbk7IE"]YouTube - New Bomb Turks[/ame]
Ugh *shivers* no no no no no no no a thousand times no. That was just desperately bad. O.A.R. or Yellow please.
New Bomb Turks are bad but this...OAR is....good? ********ing pansy music. These guys are not from Columbus. We are like Vikings. When we travel it is to pillage and destroy. Not to shed a tear while reading love letters from some little girlfriend back home.
Whatever. Who are New bomb turks? An anthem needs to be a widely known and/or easy to sing song, not some thrash bullshit. We should just make our anthem shattered by OAR
Sorry dude but I like music where they sing and dont just scream or just pant into the Mic. O.A.R. are buckeyes and adopting Columbusites, if we want pump up music there is plenty out there but I don't think that's really the point of an anthem.
You both can rewind back and tell me where I said "Choose this particular song as your anthem". I didn't. The anthem is your thing. My point is that New Bomb Turks are a successful and good Columbus band. Not a band named after a boat paddle that sounds like the B52s.
I'd actually never heard of them prior to that post, and If I remember correctly you did say we should "pillage not write home to our girls" or something to that effect about our anthem. Look dude I'm gonna pick some internet fight over this But just randomly ripping into (now say it with me) O-A-R isn't really a great way to present a case. Besides if you think they sound like the B52's you pry need to get your hearing checked. Not that this really matter as it seems like this is a subject doomed to be locked forever into the internet due to people's inability to compromise.
My vote goes to OAR. Here is another idea not sure if its been brought up before. What about Danny Boy? I think it's very catchy. [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OCbuRA_D3KU"]YouTube - Danny Boy[/ame] This is a classic version.
that was truly classic. i'm loathe to suggest this, but how about the tune from "you raise me up" i hate it everytime i hear it, but mostly because of the words. it would make a great song of endearment. just change the words, please. maybe i should just hit rock bottom now and suggest "butterfly kisses" too i'm going to go Sahel Kazemi myself now.
When the night has come And the land is dark And the moon is the only light we'll see No I won't be afraid, no I won't be afraid Just as long as you stand, stand by me And darlin', darlin', stand by me, oh now now stand by me Stand by me, stand by me If the sky that we look upon Should tumble and fall And the mountains should crumble to the sea I won't cry, I won't cry, no I won't shed a tear Just as long as you stand, stand by me And darlin', darlin', stand by me, oh stand by me Stand by me, stand by me, stand by me-e, yeah Whenever you're in trouble won't you stand by me, oh now now stand by me Oh stand by me, stand by me, stand by me Darlin', darlin', stand by me-e, stand by me Oh stand by me, stand by me, stand by me
I know. I was just trying to re-introduce your idea. It's a perfect sing-along song. Everyone knows the lyrics. Nobody is going to complain about the band who sings it. People outside of the Nordecke might even sing along with it.
Has anyone thought about bringing this up to the suits and/or the chimporgan grinder PA guy? Maybe as a fan vote the club could do?
