The WAFF website now appears to regularly update league information aswell, similiar to how the Afc website worked.

So, brought this news article to the fore back in October 2011. Doesn't look like any progress has been made. Maybe the next congress meeting will shed some light.

Over a years gone by and there appears to be no movement on the WAFF Club Championship or WAFF U16 Championship.

Can we safely say that these competitions are now off the agenda and that possibly WAFF are working closely with UAFA in regional youth and club competitions?

Omani League set to go pro

Muscat: After all the hype surrounding the Omantel Professional League (OPL), the stage is all set for the real action to begin with the Sultanate's soccer governing body announcing the fixtures of the first half of the inaugural pro league.

According to information received from the Oman Football Association (OFA) yesterday, Seeb and Al Arouba have been given the privilege to kick off the exciting new season on Friday.

While three matches are scheduled on the much-looked-forward-to opening day action, Seeb-Al Arouba tie, to be played at Seeb Stadium from 5.45 pm, will enter the record books as the first match of the inaugural pro league.

The day's other two matches will see Al Nahda taking on Sohar at Al Nahda Club from 7.00 pm and Fanja facing Al Shabab at Seeb Stadium from 8.15 pm.

Suwaiq, the champions of final season of amateur era, will begin their campaign against Al Nasr at Al Saada Sports Complex in Salalah from 8.15 on Saturday.

Earlier in the day, Sur and Al Ittihad are scheduled to clash at the same venue from 5.45 pm.

The first week action will conclude the following day when Majees taking on Dhofar and Saham squaring off against Al Musannah. Both matches will be played at the Sohar Sports Complex, first at 5.30 pm and the second at 8.10 pm.

Meanwhile, a press statement from the OFA said fans will see a number of changes as the league progresses – with the fixture announcement one of the key changes being made.

"The OPL governing body wanted to make sure that fans were at the forefront of their thinking and wanted to ensure that all steps were taken to give fans a better match day experience. A firm fixture list gives fans security to know when their favorite teams are playing," the statement said.

Looking forward to the kick off, OPL CEO Sheikh Shabib Al Hosni said: "The OPL is about to start. We have been working really hard to push professionalism forward, and it will be good to finally see the games being played.

"We have many more steps to take — and we know there is much more hard work to come — but I know the people of Oman can see the positive results that will come from a pro league. And I am sure that they will support our efforts.

"My thanks go to all the staff, coaches, players and volunteers at clubs and in the OPL office.

We know how much effort you have put in to be ready for the new season — and I wish you all well for the months ahead."

"The OPL games will be played predominantly at a regular set of stadiums — Seeb Stadium, Sur, Sohar, Salalah and Al Nadha — a move designed again to make it easier for fans. With tickets now on sale for RO 1, the improvements to match day, including refreshments now available at the stadium, will mean a match day is great value."

    First week fixtures
Sept 13: Seeb vs Al Arouba at Seeb Stadium, 5.45 pm; Al Nahda vs Sohar at Al Nahda Club, 7.00 pm; Al Shabab vs Fanja at Seeb Stadium 8.15 pm.

Sept 14: Al Ittihad vs Sur at Al Saada Sports Complex, 545 pm; Al Nasr vs Suwaiq at Al Saada Sports Complex 8.15 pm.

Sept 15: Majees vs Dhofar at Sohar Sports Complex 5.30 pm; Saham vs Al Musannah at Sohar Sports Complex 8.10 pm.
