Player Ratings: Villarreal 3-0 Atletico Madrid
Villarreal produced a virtuoso performance to make Atletico Madrid, a form side chasing the top lot themselves, look extremely ordinary. Goal.com analyses the individual performances...

Diego Lopez - 7: Looked comfortable and confident with everything that came his way.

Javi Venta - 6: A competent showing. Was not posed too great a threat down Atleti's left flank but made sure he did the little things right.

Gonzalo - 7: Continues his good form with another tenacious performance. Always in the right place at the right time to make the challenge and does an excellent job of sweeping up when required to as well.

Godin - 6.5: Made himself hard to beat despite Atleti's numerous forward threats. Worked well with the slightly more impressive Gonzalo.

Capdevila - 7: Had his hands full with Maxi Rodriguez, but usually managed to keep the Argentine international from causing too much trouble. Linked up well with Pires on the left flank and looked even more lively in the second half.

Pires - 8: Was majestic at times, showing great touches and, despite not getting a goal or assist, he was the catalyst of almost all of Villarreal's moves going forward, including the first two goals.

Senna - 7: A titan in midfield and, as usual, made himself incredibly hard to beat. A good anchoring job.

Eguren - 6.5: A disciplined performance. Hung back with Senna and made sure the midfield battle was won by the home side. Was a crucial player in the second half in keeping Atleti at bay.

Cazorla - 9: Incredibly energetic. Put himself about everywhere and was always where he needed to be, he scored the first, played a huge part in the second, and assisted the third. Man of the Match without question.

Nihat - 8: Put in a good shift up front and took his goals well, not otherwise involved all that often.

Rossi - 7.5: Noted as the lead striker, Rossi turned provider this evening, with two crosses from the left-hand side setting up the two goals. Impressive and energetic performance; kept Atleti's defenders ever so busy.

and SORE LOSER

Perea - 5: The athletic defender was one of the main reasons Villarreal struggled to create any openings at the start of the game. As so often happens, it was his sloppy error that led to the opening goal. From then on was mostly competent, but let frustration creep in during the second half and was lucky to get away with stamping on Rossi's back.

we played so well yesterday.... god damn rossi and gonzalo, senna and pires...so good!

The only downside was cani and matias coming in....the game seemed like it was locked up, but when you get subbed in 10 min from time, its not for jogging or otherwise being lazy....they both looked extremely ordinary.
Anyway, good show by everyone else!

Diego Lopez proved his worth today, once again, its the little things you forget about....that Maxi shot would have been a goal with any other keeper in goal, at a crucial time in the match, but he kept the dream alive! I love this commentary from AS.com
