I will say Chara did well considering it was his first start and first official match ever. He did not show as much nerves as other guys put into that position and was dangerous. It will be interesting to see if his role will change to Super sub in the next match.
It's a lot easier said than done. Between Pekerman playing the super destroyer midfield combo, not having decent attacking fullbacks nor Hames and Venezuela playing their volleyball national team in their own turf this game was pretty much a guaranteed tie.
All things considered I am happy with the point. I seriously thought we were going to find a way to lose.
Para muchos, Colombia sacó un mal resultado con Venezuela. Por el contrario, este equipo de Dudamel no es el que empezó la Eliminatoria.— Pablo Giralt (@giraltpablo) September 1, 2017
New coach. Get Perus with our roster would be good. They play well with a crap roster. I also blame it on our federation. They should have let Pekerman been in charge of all levels of the NT. He has been the coach for what 5 years? 5 years of wasted youth teams with shit coaching.
I liked Chara's performance. I think he did well, his speed and dribbles will be a threat for every team. When he'll have the chemistry with James and Falcao, I would consider him as a starter a bit behind Falcao. Despite his horrible game, Cardona can also co-op with him. He wasn't surprise for me, I 've been asking him to the national team since his days in Nacional. I'm a huge Chara fan ;-)
I liked Chara way better when he moved to the left. More space to operate, more chance to speed behind the defense. The guy can and has played in every sector the attack. Makes for a very qualified sub.
But he needs to play in the wing. Cardona must play in the center if James isn't playing. And against this kind of teams speed in the wings is much more important. If only Izquierdo was also called, I would move Cuadrado to the fullback position and put Chara on the right. Cuadrado is too wasteful but in my opinion he can't be in the bench, he is one of the best corner kick takers we have and Arias (even if I don't dislike him at all) hasn't done anything to guarantee his spot. The thing is, against brazil we'll probably have Cuadrado-James-Cardona again and I'm not sure if I'll be happy seeing Cardona in the left wing, he looked out of his depth against venezuela.
I know he's not a winger but I'd rather start James on that left wing with Cardona helping out in the midfield because he's actually decent at defending. Once Fabra starts getting more comfortable with playing time he's actually better than Armero in attack who would compensate for James' lack of speed and overlap in plays.
Did you notice how Cardona took all the corners and set pieces against Venezuela? I found that odd I think of all set pieces only 1 of them led to a real goal opportunity.
That's a shame because Cuadrado is very good in corner kicks, Cardona just made a single one past the first defender and that's probably the one you're mentioning.
Exactly, a tie against Venezuela (for us) is a good result, we always do bad against them. Vs Brazil I don't expect much either. The games that we should capitalize in qualifiers which we always do is Paraguay and Peru.
God man we may not qualify if we lose against Brazil; the points are too close and we can easily mess up against Peru and Paraguay given by our shitty mentality.
