I have this on mute on the computer, and the LAG-LAFC game on the television. That one is tough to look away from.
That set piece defending was horrible. And the Royals are really lucky to have finished with 11 players. O'Hara should have been sent off for that challenge on Carpenter.
I'm shocked that the ref didn't blow his whistle. We were sitting right in front of it, and it was awful. Not surprisingly, they never showed a replay of that. They also never replayed the Thorns' second goal, which left everyone in the stadium confused. On a happier note, it was a really fun atmosphere. A warm summer night, lots of people, and tons of action. I'm especially happy about that last bit, after last season's anemic offense. And I think a lot of those casual attendees must have been really happy with what they saw.
The last 10 minutes of this one were fun as hell. Sad the Royals couldn't find a winner, but that was the most fun I've had at a Royals game without a doubt. I had to laugh at the Corsie goal. That was the slowest meg goal I've ever witnessed... and I coach 8 year olds.
Well if that's the case, RSL has a bunch of also-ran participation trophies in it's trophy case so why spend all that money on players? Hell, Dear Leader Hansen can pay me $200 a year to play and I'll guarantee him yet another participation trophy. I'll be the worse striker/winger/midfielder/center back/goalie that MLS has ever seen.
I'd rather personally watch a good match that ends 2-2 than a boring 1-0 win. Yes, I understand the importance of winning to get to championships and whatnot, but meh. I coach young kids with 99% focus on development and fun so my lens isn't the same as others, I'll admit.
This is our ESPN game against North Carolina - ESPNews at least. Hopefully there's a good crowd in addition to three points.
I co-sign on the hoping for a good crowd. I do NOT co-sign on the hoping for 3 points, unless those 3 points go to the Courage
Crazy, active start to this one - up and down the field with good chances on both ends. Goal for Press at minute 14 or so. But the NC attack is a good one.
I don't know what's going on with Corsie, but her play since the WC has been awful. She was at fault for both Courage goals. Gave Hamilton too much space on the first goal, and screwed up by not trusting Sauerbrunn to defend Hamilton, thereby leaving McDonald wide open for the second goal. Not that Barnhart covered herself in glory, either. Both of those goals could have been saved.
Yeah, it's a bit frustrating that we've finally found a groove on offense, but now our defense is starting to look shaky. We were up a goal and turning the screw on the best team in the league during the first half (albeit one missing some of its key players), then we laid an egg in the second half.
Meh, I pretty much thought that the Courage was the more dynamic, athletic and skilled team throughout the game. The Royals found a good goal, but the Courage always looked to be worthy winners. Corsie did have some bad moments that were costly.
The Courage are always the better team in games I watch them play. Like you said, their shear athleticism is astounding in comparison to other teams. That the Royals still play the slow painful soccer is infuriating to me. Press has helped this quite a bit, but we still have slow ass players across the pitch preventing the team from being anything close to "fast"
Three goals now for the Royals, in the first 70 minutes. Three! Second game in a row after not hitting for 3+ all season long. Here's to the offense clicking finally. 3-1 at the 70th.
With five out of our last eight games on the road, we could really do with a straightforward win in Orlando.
I wouldn't mind seeing the Royals join the 4 road goals club against the Pride. They're the only team that has yet to score 4 goals in a single road game.
