U.S. Soccer announces Abby Dahlkemper has not traveled with the team to LA due to a foot injury. #USWNT— John D. Halloran (@JohnDHalloran) November 12, 2016
Unless she got hurt in warm up I doubt they dress her if she couldnt play. My guess is it happened since the last match.
I hope Romania gives us a game. It's difficult to evaluate players when the talent gap is so titanic.
Or at least sets up better tactically (i.e., bunkers down) in order to keep it close. They were way overclassed in game 1 and they were playing a fairly open game.
I didnt think Romania was that bad...they played, they connected passes when they got out. They scored a goal and could have had two or three (header off the post & Broon making a great play on an attacker who was in). What happened for the most part was they were velocitized. The speed of the attack especially in the first half just overwhelmed them.
Athletically the US was/is so far ahead of Romania. Plus defensively Romania was so disorganized. Not to take anything away from the US, they played well, but I just couldn't help but cringe on how disorganized Romania was in their defensive third.
Accurate description of game one. Romania has players with ball skills - I liked #10, #8, #9 (the goal scorer) in particular. But yeah they just couldn't cope with the speed. I was pleased to see the U.S. start quickly; it has been a recurring theme lately to start slow, let the opponent hang around, then turn it up in the second half.
I hope this means Menges gets a shot. If we persist with the 3-5-2, can't think of many players better suited to one of the "outside" back roles. Maybe try something like this? ---------------Naeher---------------- --Krieger--Sauerbrunn--Menges-- ---------Brian----Sullivan---------- -Ohai--------Mewis-------Heath---- --------Morgan-----Williams----------
Yeah, I wouldnt mind seeing Sauerbrunn and Johnston split halves trying to be the play maker out of that middle slot. If one of them can do it I feel a little better about a three back than having Long learn a position that is traditional all about experience. Id also like to Morgan & Press out there together either paired at the top or Press at the #10
No line-up yet? What the hay? I sincerely hope that Ellis and Klinsmann have not communicated in any way these past few weeks.
Williams really needs to do something this game if she is in the lineup. She needs to score, look a little hungrier, or at least put in an assist. She should have got one of Press' poacher goals last game. Right now I think Press is the clear #1 forward for this style of play.
Press is too inconsistent with her finishing. Fortunately, we have a couple years to solve this riddle.
I disagree. I think she has been very consistent when given the opportunity. Her performance in the NWSL supports that. I wouldn't call Morgan, Williams or Dunn consistent finishers either. Lloyd is on her last legs.
that she won't be a part of the picture in 2019 other than as a mascot/hindrance. Like abby was in the last couple years of her career
Today’s #USWNT starters for #USAvROU: Naeher; Sauerbrunn (c), Long, Short; Ohai, Sullivan, Brian, Heath; Dunn, Williams, Press. pic.twitter.com/YZguG5DaGv— U.S. Women's National Soccer Team (@USWNT) November 14, 2016
How can you possibly know that? I mean, she's been getting better with age. Seems to have found her sweet spot on the field. She could very well still make a huge impact on the team in 2019. I wouldn't discount her, of all the players, just yet. She has a fire inside that few players are able to get or maintain for long. Finally, coming back to Abby, she had other issues, her decline wasn't only age related. Just sayin'
Hooraaah!!!! We are in business folks! Shout out to @lunatica for bringing the U17WNT promo code thing up 6 weeks ago. I just entered the promo code "U20WNT" on my FoxSoccer2Go account by chance and it worked! Looks like I now have an active subscription from Nov 14, 2016 to Nov 28, 2016 on: http://www.foxsoccer2go.com/ .
Available subs for today's #USAvROU: Mewis, O'Hara, Johnston, Horan, Krieger, Morgan, Harris.— U.S. Women's National Soccer Team (@USWNT) November 14, 2016
Only change on the bench is Krieger for McDonald. So no Rapinoe for two games in a row. Ellis making a statement here? No appearance for Menges. Or Edmonds.
