The new President has to be someone who will break up the unholy trinity of corruption & lies that is USSF/MLS/SUM.

It has to be someone who loves the sport. Wants the sport to grow in the USA. And will have that be their guiding principle instead of whatevet lines the pockets of 23 lying, greedy MLS owners, USSF cronies, SUM, corrupt CONCACAF officials, and greedy pay to play academy folk.

Oh, and not treating the 3 time World Cup, 4 time Olympic champion USWNT like crap would be a good thing. Sitting on $100 million plus and not paying them equal money is a disgrace.

How is playing overseas and watching those who play at the highest level better than playing at home and watching those who play at the highest level? Are you suggesting Reyna played at a level that could match the level Donovan played at? Reyna had potential for a great career, and achieved mediocrity. Landon had potential for a great career and achieved excellence. Both had eyes and interest to watch others who played at a great level. Donovan has shown his seriousness as a student of the game, and as a leader in the USMNT and MLS, over many years. Always accepting full responsibility for his failures as well as his successes. The contrast with Reyna in this regard is extraordinary. For example, have you ever heard an honest assessment from Reyna as to his performances at WC 2006 and his pathetic turn in MLS?
Neither are probably ready to be leading USSF, but between the two Reyna is the far weaker candidate...although he is certainly the most Jurgenesque.

Considering the sometime implication of that contemporary slang, there's a definite John Harkes irony here.

It’s weird to say that since one of his main claims to fame was being cuckolded.

Edit: damn beaten to the obvious punch

Oh don't worry about the economics professor who was Chuck Blazer's best friend, he has received plenty of financial compensation that would not have been possible without using his unpaid position to consolidate power, which of course is the point, who does Sunil serve? Like everyone else on the planet, whoever is paying him the most/

    https://leastthing.blogspot.com/2017/09/nasl-and-jeffrey-kessler-take-on-us.html

There is a lot in there (a lot of dollars too), so let me summarize:
    • SUM was worth a reported $600 million in 2011.
    • SUM paid USSF $8.5 million in 2014 in annual guarantees
    • SUM paid an additional $18.3 million to USSF in 2015, implying a profit of $7.8 million retained by SUM (i.e., $18.3/0.7)
There is more. According to the NY Post, MLS president Garber has a conflict of interest when it comes to SUM:
According to US Soccer, Garber recused himself from voting on its financial arrangement with SUM, standard protocol for someone who has interests with both parties. It also appears that USSF president Sunil Gulati is a shareholder in SUM, because he reportedly also recuses himself from USSF discussions of SUM, based on what USSF told me in an interview for this article last year.

If that is the case then that would mean that both Garber and Gulati have a piece of the $600 million of equity (in 2011) represented by SUM. Just as interesting, some fraction of SUM's television rights packages were helped along by none other than the late Chuck Blazer, who was caught up in and helped to move along the US DOJ investigation into corruption among FIFA, CONCACAF and CONMEBOL officials.

He also makes money off of some other boards and councils he sits on, some random CONCACAF council paid him 50k one year, that council had one meeting, I can't find the link, but who cares anyway?

The only reason this crap is tolerated is because our press won't do their jobs and dig and we as supporters don't care enough to put real pressure on these organizations.

All travel expenses are paid for you, and you get a stipend to push the items in the agenda with the right people, from what I know.

Still, I don't see why someone who can make six figures in the private sector (and that's what a good economist can easily make) would go for this.

It's a bit like getting elected to Congress: no one believes you're going to spend an average of $12 million dollars to get a Senate seat that pays $174,000/year.

There's more going behind the scenes, and the important thing is not getting caught.

Because some economists prefer 7 figures in conflicts of interests, kickbacks and corrupt council seats, none of which would be possible without the access provided by the “unpaid” gig?

I am very cynical I know, but I do not believe that Sunil does his job (or doesn't as has been proven) without some type of compensation. There are so many way for a guy in his position to make loads of money even though he does not get it through a paycheck.

Because he makes 7 figures in his current “unpaid” gig.

PS - Sunil chose not to speak at an event where press would be present. Instead he held closed door sessions earlier in the day. Stand up guy.

If there were justice in this world, Sunil (and many in our Congress) would be behind bars, serving the sentences they give to the poor kids caught smoking pot.

Let's go back to the Congress comparison. Incumbents of more than one term seem to leave Congress with incredible gains in wealth....incredible if you believed that their wealth was coming from their official salary. All those miracle multi-millionaires being born out of a school principal's salary.....I tell ya, Economists should study the magic of that particular market...and that's what our Good Gulati is doin', yes sir he is!......The man will win a Nobel for his noble work.;)
