I don't oppose an ex-player being USSF President, but I think we have far more qualified candidates than Landon Donovan. I would want a player who has spent the majority of his playing career overseas and watched how it's been done right at the highest level. Claudio Reyna would be perfect, but we need to make it a paid position as he'd have to leave his NYCFC gig. He knows the problem and has seen first hand the top level football culture in three different countries. He also isn't afraid to speak his mind. I'm sure there's some other guys that would fit the mold, but Donovan hasn't shown me anything to make me think that he's a solution.
Would you believe there was a time on BS when if I wanted someone to take my post seriously I wrote *** Serious post alert *** at the beginning of my post? [Don't answer that.] I was just teasing @Robert Borden who 1) questioned LD's qualifications (answered by @appoo, above); and 2) claims Ontario, Canada as his residence. My apologies for lapsing into Stripes-speak - it's a favorite.
Rep you, sir. Now that's the one name I like to see run this USSF. A soccer guy, with a brain, and front office as well as youth development experiences. Knows US soccer, he has connections abroad. Come to think of it, kinda sound like Klinsi. Lmao
I think Claudio Reyna would be the best option. Developed in the US system Great player for US when healthy Played abroad (sort of played in MLS) Former US soccer youth technical director and created youth soccer curriculum. Which wasn't perfect but, had great fundamentals Wants to push for changes without wanting to blow everything up Seems to be doing well as NYCFC sporting director. More of an admin position. Heavily connected in US Soccer Connections to Latino community
Reyna is a good call as well. I think the curriculum he put together is excellent and the arrogance and idiocy that he was railing against is why the curriculum has been completely ignored. Having said all that Ernie's bona fides are every bit as good as Reyna's and he is a proven administrator, which Reyna is not. Anyone but Gulati, anyone.
A vastly different system that served very few people, even in comparison with today. except on Big Soccer. As a Red Bull fan, I disagree that he played in the MLS. Also heavily invested in the current DA and NYCFC sporting director.
It's unlikely that anyone beyond Gulati, Gans & Lapointe run in the end. Ex-players tend to be too busy learning about coaching and doing the PR/commentating thing to want to take this sort of job: full time and without pay. There's no way that Donovan is serious about it, either. This is like when he said he wanted to play for Boca Juniours or retire with Club America: lip service to the press to keep his name on the news. LD is far too busy with his son, and probably will manage a second soon. His biggest wish was to have a large family, even more than owning his own team, so he's following the Irish Imperative.
Any of these 3 will for sure improve the US Soccer org. Carlos Bocanegra Claudio Reyna Earnie Stewart
This might prove useful to one of the other candidates, ELO ratings % increase or decline by USSF President: https://leastthing.blogspot.com/
Because low-information dopes angry at the failures of the system saw him as a suitable figurehead for their "team". I don't want to be one of those people for Landon Donovan. If he's the guy, prove it. Let him make his case.
Earnie Stewart? Reyna? C’mon man. Do they have degrees in economics? I didn’t think so. Stick with the Professor. In Sunil we trust. What could go wrong?
This is an unpaid volunteer position. And it involves a lot of traveling, most often than not to places with very few tourist attractions. Sunil had to spend a week in India back in July, in the middle of monsoon season in Mumbai, to finish the planning of the U17 WC and proceed with the group draw. The guy came to the USA when he was five, so I don't think he even speaks Hindi. Anyway, it's a full-time job full of travel to muggy places in economy class. I wouldn't do it even if they paid me a half-decent salary. What sort of schmuck gets to do all that for nothing?
Let's be honest here. Sunil is being compensated, in some forms or fashions. I like to see full disclosures of all compensations he had received over the past 10 years from ALL sources. Whether that is monetary, leisure, travel/personal expense allowances, etc.
It appears Waldo is in: Eric Wynalda is running for U.S. Soccer president and very encouraged by support he's received from members. "They want change." 1/— Paul Kennedy (@pkedit) October 21, 2017 Wynalda says his priorities are to listen to members and solve the soccer problems. "I don't think federation can do it." 2/— Paul Kennedy (@pkedit) October 21, 2017 He says pro game must be fixed, calling it a "dead-end street." He's says he'll have plan to make MLS "functioning, profitable league." 3/— Paul Kennedy (@pkedit) October 21, 2017 On #USWNT, he says players should receive equal pay. "I will tear up the deal," in reference to new agreement reached in April. 4/— Paul Kennedy (@pkedit) October 21, 2017
I'm just going to post these again... Can't wait for the late night drunken Twitter diatribes... wait why does that sound so familiar?
All in for Wynalda. Played in Europe, knows the game, he's a firebrand and won't take shit. Not a beta male.
Sunil has to be compensated some way or another. No one will do it for free and pay everything out of your own pocket just for the "love" of it.
