During the post-game press conference Vermes said, "We're building a $70 million training facility outside of the one we already have." Is he referring to the youth fields they promised in Wyandotte County when they built the stadium or something else entirely? He was referring to the club, so I don't think he was talking about the U.S. facility.
i would assume he's talking about the US training facility that they'll likely co-op as their new facility.
Some sort of joint venture / facility management arrangement that includes a sharing provision for the club would be really sweet.
My buddy and I stayed out in the stands to watch the press conference and along with the price tag, there was a mention of 16 or 18 fields (I can't remember), so I can only imagine it is linked to either the Swope development or the the USMNT Training Facility.
IF we're guessing the NT Training Center, there's a virtual pornographic pic of it's proposed plan somewhere in the sporting national team thread that Robb had tweeted. Robb also tweeted a construction start planned for sometime "this year" back in early January. Recently he referenced it again during the canned fan forum. Basically, it's driving me nuts. If we're talking about youth development proposed plan, I dunno? I get that and the swope park refurbishment* for youth fields all mixed up. I recall some sort of "requirement" incumbent with the stadium build that OnGoal build fields in Wy. Co., which obviously wouldn't encompass a Swope Park project. * I believe this developed out of Jackson County's TIF money.
His very next sentence was about how the Swope facility would be getting 5 more fields. That gave me the impression that the $70 mil was something separate from the Swope facility. The USNT facility would make the most sense; I suppose that if Sporting is helping to plan and develop it, it only makes sense for Sporting to get something out of it fairly tangible, as well. If anyone is really curious about what was said, it's at the 3:25 mark of this video.
And just like that... "Major" announcement coming Weds w/ @SportingKC, @govsambrownback and @MayorHollandKCK. Maybe a water slide from Legends to Schlitterbahn?— Sam Hartle (@Sam_Hartle) July 22, 2014
Could be just coincidence, but I know that USSF CEO is coming to KC this weekend. (He has family here tho.)
US training complex was on county meeting agenda last week.... http://www.wycokck.org/WorkArea/DownloadAsset.aspx?id=40097
If the training center really happens. I may have to stop snarking so hard on the whole "Soccer Capital of America" thing.
USSF Dan Flynn has been in "negotiating" with Sporting General counsel for a long time. My two cents: Though maybe not necessarily real property related, could regard mixed-use w/ sporting. ?
Yup. You found it. On page 10 Phase 1B. US Soccer Development (Project Area 2) US Soccer Field Development Costs Hotel & Retail/Restaurant @ US Soccer Site Just scanning and adding round numbers in my head, it looks like about $13MM or so for this phase. Notably, it appears that approximately $9.3MM of that is private funds. Also Section 5 - page 12 under the heading: The unique quality of the project "National Training & Coaching Development Center as the headquarters for U.S. Soccer."
Every time I think Sporting club can't possibly follow up thier prior act... BOOM. Its almost like they have some sort of Office Outlook reminder set every six months just to remind themselves to blow everybodies mind. Announcement tomorrow at six. They have me... pining for more and more. I won't be happy until the rest of the football world surrenders thier boots at the Wyandotte County line. What an amazing 72 hours this has been. Am I overreacting?
Any updates on this, insights? Is it going to be the National Training Center announcement? "Major" announcement coming Weds w/ @SportingKC, @govsambrownback and @MayorHollandKCK. Maybe a water slide from Legends to Schlitterbahn?— Sam Hartle (@Sam_Hartle) July 22, 2014
I'd be very surprised if the announcement is anything other than the national training center. But we could get lucky and it'll be an announcement that Brownback is going to give up politics and follow his life-long dream of being a professional locker room attendant.

Yeah, I noticed that it may be old in another article saying Heineman tweeted it a while back. If he wants it done to host a team for Copa America in 2016, better get on more than a drawing!
http://www.soccerbyives.net/2014/07/national-training-heading.html Joined by the United Government of Wyandotte County and representatives from Schlitterbahn Water Park and EPR Properties Wednesday, Kansas Gov. Sam Brownback and Sporting Kansas City CEO Robb Heineman announced the development of a U.S. Soccer National Training Center complex in Kansas City, Kan. The new $75-plus million, 100,000 square-feet project will house the National Training and Coaching Development Center and feature 16 fields for professional and youth teams. The complex will also include a 125-room full-service hotel and facilities tailored towards strength and nutrition.
