Updated list. Let's hope that our players return from injury and some of our youth get promoted

    5 star / World Class / Top 32 team

    • Pulisic/Chelsea (6)
    • Dest/Ajax (10)
    4 star / Major League / Top 100 team

    • Brooks/Wolfsburg (41), hopefully returning from injury
    • Sargent/Werder Bremen (63)

    • Ream/Fulham (91, wut?)
    3 star / AAA Level (Top 200)
    • Morales/Fortuna Düsseldorf (101), hopefully returning from injury
    • Steffen/Fortuna Düsseldorf (101)
    • Gall/Malmo (126)
    • Siebatcheau/Rennes (130)
    • Tyler Boyd/Beşiktaş (138)
    • AronJo/Hammersby (231)
    • Carter-Vickers/Swansea (195)
    AA Level (Top 400~MLS)
    • Alvarado/Necaxa (210)
    • Cameron/QPR (216)
    • Lichaj/Hull City (225)
    • Amon/FC Nordsjælland (234)
    • Holmes/Derby County (250)
    • Miazga/Reading (254)
    • Novakovich/Reading (254)
    • Robinson/Wigan (263)
    • Palmer-Brown/Austria Vienna (301)
    • Diskerud/Ulsan Hyundai (NR)
    A Level Top 600 (Yikes)
    • Moore/Tenerife (428)
    • Sabbi/Hobro IK (433)
    • Wright/VVV-Venlo (448)
    • Green/Greuther Fürth (463)

    • Pierie/Ajax (10)
    • Mendez/Ajax (15)
    • Reyna/Dortmund (11)
    • Adams/RB Leipzig (16)
    • FJ/Gladbach (31)
    Major League Irregular/Reserve/Injured

    • Wood/Hannover (299)
    • Soto/Hannover (299)
    • Klinsmann/St. Gallen (301)
    • Gooch/Sunderland (302)
    A Level Top 600 (Yikes)

club rank by 538 [exact ranking doesn't really matter but broadly works]

Green = potential to rise to higher level
Red = risk of falling to a lower level or getting benched
Italics = American born/raised outside of the US, whose USMNT success apparently indicates that the US' "developmental system fails to produce good players"[/QUOTE]

Is Gio Reyna a possibility for 2022, or not?

And I understand he is an attacking midfielder, correct? Does he play in the center or in the wing?

He's a winger. He's 16 until December, but would be turning 20 during the World Cup.

Thanks. Do we have any young promising #10 types, or also holding mid types?

I'm no expert, but the hardcore, defensively strong 6s seem to have disappeared from the program, at least for the foreseeable future.

Danny Leyva is more a passing-heavy holding mid, but he's a young 16, and you won't really know his ceiling until he grows into his body. He was on this team but seemed a bit young for the competition.

Attacking mid-wise, the last U20 crew has the best prospects until you are getting really young. Paxton Pomykal, Richie Ledezma, Alex Mendez are all pretty good and different prospect who could play that position.

Pomykal is the most well-rounded and modern attacking mid. Ledezma is the traditional 10 -- electric, a great passer, and needs to work on defense. Mendez also has that issue but has an amazing left foot in terms of bangers and some great vision as well.

This U17 crew was missing someone like that. Reyna's a winger, and Busio is better than some give credit, but he's almost more of a second striker in that he's really opportunistic, not someone you run an offense through.

Younger, you have players like Moses Nyeman, Evan Rotundo and more ... but they are like 14, 15, so nobody knows.

He is currently playing as a winger but I see his future playing inside. When he plays the wing he doesn't play it as a traditional winger.

He may cut inside quite a bit, but to my eyes, he's pretty clearly a winger. When people have used him inside, he really doesn't show the passing / vision you want.

What do you see about his game that you see him moving inside?

I see a 16 y.o. with a man's body that can handle the tight spacing of playing inside. But, I agree with you, right now he is too selfish with the ball to see the open man for the killer pass. I still think he can learn and be a force inside.

I'm sure there will be someone (at least one) from the U17s to make it (if we in fact qualify). If Reyna debuts at Dortmund this season (or next) he's going to instantly be in the pool.

The hard thing is cutting down the young midfielders and trying to dig up center backs who don't make me gag.

how do we differentiate the dest type from the haji type? The first should be instantly included but haji also came through the academy and then got a couple of starts for S04 when injury ravaged.

Reyna, Uly, Richards and Ledesma seem to be in the first group thankfully.

Both Pulisic and Yedlin make the EPL Team of the week. Not sure the last time that's happened.

Hopefully, Berhalter finds a way to get our best players to play up to their ceilings in the upcoming matches.

Tyler Adam's rate of 5 stars is a bit high for only playing a short time in Germany.
Heck, Brooks only has 4 and he is vet playing at a high level.
    Cappis is a dual 8. Not a dedicated 6.

Sorry, y'all, but I just watched Geoff Cameron help QPR whup Cardiff. He's still bigger, stronger, smarter, better in the air than half the FB on the USMNT roster. And I don't care if he'll be 44 in 2022. The image of him sitting head in hands on the bench as we got washed out of the last WC qual sticks with me. Bruce Arena is the north end of a south facing horse, and had he not let his personal feelings about Cameron prevail over good judgement, we would have gone to last WC. Of course if J LIttleman had not let his personal feelings about Landon Donovan cloud his judgement in 2014, we might have beaten Belgium. Are we ever going to have grownups coaching the USMNT?

All we needed to do was play in a 4-2-3-1 with experienced backs, like Cameron, let T&T attack, lose composure defensively, and take advantage of their mistakes. Instead we were stretch and exploited by better athletes. What a mess it was.

Somewhere along the way we tried to become a poor mans Arsenal. Lack of a ball winning/fighting 6 is glaring.

I'd take freakin Frankie Hedjuk at this point.over the human pylon.

Updated list. Let's hope that our players return from injury and some of our youth get promoted

    5 star / World Class / Top 32 team

    • Pulisic/Chelsea (7)

    • Gall/Malmo (118)
    • Morales/Fortuna Düsseldorf (146)
    • Steffen/Fortuna Düsseldorf (146)
    • Ream/Fulham (143)

    • Williams, Pafos
Arguments can be made in how to slot these players relative to the list above.

    World Class Irregular/Reserve/Injured
    • Richards/Bayern Munich (3)
    • Pierie/Ajax (22)
    Major League Irregular/Reserve/Injured
    • Horvath/Brugge (40)
    • Llanez/Wolfburg (41)

    • Mendez/PSV (109)
    • Gloster/PSV (109)
    • Klinsmann/St. Gallen (140)
    • AronJo/Hammersby (165)
    • Wood/Hannover (184)
    • Soto/Hannover (184)

club rank by 538 [exact ranking doesn't really matter but broadly works]

Green = potential to rise to higher level
Red = risk of falling to a lower level or getting benched
Italics = American born/raised outside of the US, whose USMNT success apparently indicates that the US' "developmental system fails to produce good players"
