Wow... it's over. This will go down hopefully as the cycle that caused USSF to shake things up. It should be obvious that Arena and Gulati should be fired. Big props to @Footsatt for maintaining and updating this thread. I know it's super-early and the wound is still really fresh, but I hope you start--and @Eleven Bravo--and maintain a 2022 thread. Thanks for your contributions, guys. I'm gutted, but I love the BigSoccer community.
For the US the new cycle starts in the next game... so I do plan to continue, and I am open to suggestions on how to make my list better for the 2022 cycle. Although, I assume the US will hire a new coach for the next cycle, so I probably wont start this up until the new coach takes over.
Definitely look forward to it again. Love the way you approached it and believe it was invaluable. Would also look for suggestions for improvement. In particular, if someone would want to, I'd like a partner in order to ensure favoritism isn't influencing the rankings and releasing a monthly update.
My only suggestion would be maybe to create a spreadsheet and then just use the thread to link to your file. That would prevent most of the scrolling in the thread. But otherwise I think you do a fantastic job with this, @Footsatt.
I think someone does that in the Yanks abroad thread. That's a good idea. I might make a category for actual CAPS too.
In addition to the transfer tracker (and many other dorky soccer documents) I did start a file for MNT pools, beginning with this Arena cycle, built around birth year. At some point I might go back and fill it in for past cycles, but that's unlikely. Here's the latest: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/17xb1g8Jd2bWrXU4g3fXX1aC4A3EQcKYir1ZtHXXGoT8/edit?usp=sharing I'm happy to help/advise/whatever if there's need or interest. Of course, I don't bring any particular expertise to this.
I'd love to help out ... I had been keeping my own rankings similar to the ones you do in a Word document, so if you want some other opinions I'd be happy to chime in as you do this for the next cycle.
@Eleven Bravo these lists are always great. But most times I zone out halfway through, too many names, though I know them all, most all of them won't even get caps. Today I thought, I hope 11B posted an update. And he did! And this time I'm looking very closely...and hoping. At least I got a U-17 game to watch in the morning. Today's been bad. Hope for tomorrow. PS. thread should be closed. New one opened.
I'm all for a reset, and the immediate flushing of all guys who will be too old for 2022. But I'd be shocked if McKennie-Gonzalez started ahead of Acosta-Roldan, or if Wright-Sargent started over Altidore-Wood or Morris (assuming Morris is healthy). I'd also be shocked if Matt Hedges and Emerson Hyndman aren't in the group going forward. Surprised they were left out of your call up.
Time to close this up! Crestfallen that we did not qualify. Kind of shocked that the player pool seemed close, as typically so much changes over 4 years. Perhaps looking back, it show me that Mikkel Diskerud and all the other players who should have primed really fell off the earth. Meanwhile, Pulisic was an Olympic Outlook player but he really moved up the ladder! @bungadiri
