It's a decent selection, given what he has available. Only things I would have done differently are Sweat at FB, and Acosta as the 10. Should have just seen if Robinson bounced back. I think caps for Sweat are wasted ones. And I've never liked Acosta in general, plus in this role he can't dictate tempo. For it to work optimally they need to press highish or controlled counter. I said before the game I would have started Novakovich at the 9, and then played Sargent outside his traditional position underneath him to maximize talent and have a 10 with better vision. But I think that sort of outside the box thinking is above Dave's pay-grade. What does Novakovich have to do to finally get a significant opportunity? Dave is locked in to certain guys.
They never start at the half hour. It's always kickoff on the hour - any lies about starting at 7:30 is just a broadcasting tactic to get people to tune in early and have to sit through the pregame/advertisements.
US soccer doesn't make network scheduling decisions. The network does to maximize ad revenue. Anyway, thankfully it looks like they're going to start this match much sooner than usual in the time slot.
It's quite an experimental lineup. I'm ... not a massive fan of the formation, but I'm interested to see how the experiment goes. Is 4-1-4-1 Sarachan's official formation now? It seems a bizarre choice, given the players he called up.
Sweat gifted a corner there. Press the Peruvian defenders, they always try to come out playing and risk the ball too much. That's how we can score on them.
The good news is, with everyone in red and white, it's impossible to tell how many of the fans are for Peru or US. We should do this again in future. Play friendlies exclusively against teams with the same colors.
I gotta say, Acosta does seem to have a sense of how to move off the ball in the final third that most of our guys - including the forwards - do not have. I also have to say his beard looks ridiculous. It's like a neckbeard + an Amish farmer's beard combined.
