One last thing, as Americans I think our expectations are too high. It was about the result I expected. We are trying to rebuild after. We really weren't sharp at all during the tournament. I would love to see GB just identify the right personal. You can say what you want about Jurgeon but he was doing what we needed. He made it clear that our path to success is pushing our players overseas.
Here’s my conspiracy theory that I put in the coaching thread: Let me throw another conspiracy theory out there. In the beginning of Gold Cup there was some rumors saying Inter-Miami was interested in Boyd. Boyd enjoyed some good starting minutes at the time. Boyd came out and said I’m good, current discussions with Turkish clubs are well under way. Boyd hasn’t played. a. minute. since. :cue eerie music:
Boyd = 2nd most chances created since 2018. In his first 180 mins. Apparently equates to stunk in your mind. Push your agenda elsewhere.
There were no abstract positions tonight. Everyone knew what they were supposed to do and did it very well in the first half. Berhalter was outcoached in the second half, and Michael Bradley is too long in the tooth to hack it anymore. (And we really need a better left back, please.)
Yep. Also, of course, a cultural/immigration issue that is outside the scope of a soccer forum. I hope Trump voters are not watching the Fox Sports postgame show.
Awful subs & tactics in the second half. Really upsetting but there's some bright pieces. I want Long & Cannon to move to Europe ASAP
Here is the think with McKennie. When he is on he is on, but he has had a couple games recently where he just gets lackadaisical and it costs the team. Happened during the Curacao game. He also showed it last year at times. That should change as he matures and grows. Have to remember that he is still 20, and is still trying to find his spot with Schalke.
I sat through Mexico’s 5-0 and 4-2 Gold Cup wins. I know what shitte looks like and this game wasn’t it.
Oh my sweet summer child, all he has done is made a 3 way Battle for RB between him, Yedlin and Adams.
I still think this is the funniest thing of the day. Good luck to @cpulisic_10 in tonight's #GoldCup2019 final! 💪 pic.twitter.com/6k149nZrTD— Chelsea FC (@ChelseaFC) July 7, 2019 Chelsea had another player starting for the US. Do they know he exists?
I mean I think it was odd that Boyd didnt get a single minute the last 2 games but let's not pretend that he wasnt awful against Curacao. He was a disaster that game. That being said I do think we needed his willingness to take chances today
Nah, this theory is too far gone to me. Gregg is just weird. This is the same guy who has kept Cannon on the bench for Lima both the first camp and to begin this tournament, despite anyone with 2 eyes seeing that Cannon is the better player right now, younger and with more upside. And no, it isn't hindsight … I said as much during the January camp games, when Cannon was stapled to the bench. Gregg surely has some other reason for keeping Boyd on the bench than his choice of clubs. We might not like whatever the reason is (and we will probably never know), but it ain't because he didn't sign for a team that is yet to play a single game in its history.
Guess you didnt understand. The post that I wrote that in response was suggesting Bob Bradley might be a good replacement for GB. I pointed out that he hasnt stuck anywhere else he's been except LAFC and that hes doing well there. That was the only reason I posted BBs history
I agree. Mckennie is a solid in his duels an marking but when he's playing as an 8 he's not great at providing recovery defensive cover at the moment. He simply should not be paired with Bradley or Trapp.
Berhalter did not match the level of his own players, he owes them an apology as much as Omar Gonzalez did for his OG.
