I'm fine with this decision as long as we have an interim coach to get some games/opportunities for the new generation of players. That seems like the road we're going down................................
Bielsa is the ONE.... http://www.espnfc.com/lille/story/3...man-coaching-team-after-marcelo-bielsa-sacked
I am afraid you may be right. I hope you are wrong. he would be a good choice as we go young. Which we absolutely HAVE to do.
Biesla has been fired 2 times now in the same league for poor performances What exactly does he have now that is suitable for us?
Bielsa is going mad. Like those chess players who paint a board on the ceiling over their bed and wake up to write down dreams about a variant on the Robatsch. Obsession always gets you in the end. I can see Marcelo in 10 years going away for a sabbatical in a place with nice nurses and clean walls.
Excerpt from the above "Since Arena’s departure, the federation has issued one official statement on the coaching situation: "As this is the start of a five-year project to qualify for the 2022 World Cup and grow the national team, we want to give ourselves the best opportunity to find the right coach to lead the program. As such, there is no specific timetable. We are developing a strategic approach to selecting the next head coach, and we will be thorough and methodical.” USSF officials said they did not want to comment further." But they did anyway: "With Gulati’s future unclear and the national team in a slow period, the federation is in no rush to hire a permanent coach. 'There is zero urgency,' one person close the situation said."
I liked what Hughes did at Blackburn. He has managed a National team. He lasted 4 1/2 years at Stoke. He has coached Friedel, Nelsen, and Cameron. He’s enough of an outsider to us that he will be a fresh set of eyes, but not so much of an outsider that he won’t grok the culture. He should be on the short list.
Would Hughes be a good fit style-wise for the young players coming up? I'm kind of hoping for a S American coach this cycle as a lot of our players are playing a similar style and need some real seasoning from a coach totally blind to our GOB network.
Arsene Wenger has to leave Arsenal sometime soon? An English-speaking coach with much sustained success in the EPL would be terrific for the USMNT.
He would still be the best coach the US has ever had by a mile and a half. However, having said that, I'd pass. As much as I'd like to play that brand of soccer our player pool isn't ready for that.
Wenger is far above our pay grade. He's making over $11m/year: http://www.totalsportek.com/money/highest-paid-football-managers/ Also, he doesn't care about NTs, and if he leaves Arsenal there will be clubs willing to pay him close to what he's making now.
He's actually talked about wanting to coach a national team once he doesn't have the energy to do the day to day of a club. Likely once his Arsenal contract is up at the end of next year.
Not only is our pool not ready for it, our leadership at USSF is not up to the task of finding a good coach. Our leadership, just as much as the players themselves, has to be competent if the MNT is to have any chance of being competitive. I do not see this coming from USSF, which is the most frustrating part of all.
At this point I don't see us offering not even the $2.5m/year we paid Klinsmann. If you're set on a European manager with experience, $2m/year only get you Marcel Koller.
Definitely frustrating and yea leadership isn't a good term cause they don't have it. The board is a joke.
