They're looking for a match on the 11th or 12th, or are we playing Panama or some such nobody then? http://www.soccernet.com/england/news/2002/1015/20021015engbeckhamkarhan.html Scroll to the bottom.
And I thought they were talking about being unsure of a qualifying date on those days. I think they're going to play EURO team on one of those days. It would still be cool if we played them though.
Ohhhhhhh don't get me too excited. I'm planning on making a trip to Portugal to watch a Rapids preseason tune-up match in Feb or March and now to add something like this too.... yipppppppeeeeee. I know it's not done but something to look forward too.
First of all, with all do respect, I don't know if I like the tone of the original post. Since when do we duck big teams? But this might be the time to do it. Do we need to see Reyna, Berhalter and Sanneh again? Throw an in-form MLS all-star team at England at the right time and they won't know what hit them. I don't know how in-form an MLS team will be in February so what's the point? I'd love to see us lock horns in a meaningful game, though.
I think the "Panama" reference in the first post was a facetious comment... as in, "Panama, or some nobody"... at least that's what it read like, to me. U.S. Soccer doesn't schedule those types of fixtures anymore-- at least I hope not... Arena's side stands to gain and learn a lot more against England (per se) than against Panama (per se). Maybe not as much of an unknown quantity or a best-kept secret anymore, since the World Cup-- but I do like the odds of an all-MLS selection versus Sven Goran Eriksson's England side. Would give a chance to prove to a lot of the pro-Euros that the USA's World Cup run was no fluke. And yes, that would be a very meaningful game, whether MLS would be in midseason or otherwise, which would be the case in the month of February. Cheers, William
On FSW Report tonight they mentioned Denmark or Australia as possible opponents for England in February, no mention of the US.
Who wouldn't want a US-England match up? I can see it now MLS vs. EPL, and the little know league smashes the mighty giants of the EPL on their home soil!!
From the forementioned website: "England are still looking at opponents for a friendly international next February. Coach Sven-Goran Eriksson wants to take advantage of the dates set aside for international friendlies - Tuesday, February 11 or Wednesday, February 12." well, it is so obvious that when the say 'opponents' they mean the United States Men's National Team. That's all I needed. I booked my ticket there already.
I don't know that the BigSoccer community could take a USA vs England. But tell you what, I'd be VERY curious to see what happens in England if we were to actually defeat an England side that featured Owen, Beckham, Rio, Owen Hargraeves, etc.
Well, wishful thinking aside, I've heard Denmark or Australia mentioned. On another note though, Canada just played Scotland over here. I don't know what that has to do with anything but there ya go...
Yes but on BigSoccer we don't have to wait for a team to ask us to play them. We just assume that Arena is ducking them if we aren't the opponent. In February I am hoping for us to play England, Grance, and the Netherlands all on the same day. We have the depth to do it.
USSF Pushing Hard for England Friendly Looks like the press is starting to pick this up. From PlanetFootball.com http://www.planetfootball.com/artic...9&title=USA+pushing+hard+for+England+friendly"/> Possibly played at Manu's grounds. Looks like there is some validity to this effort. Wonder if Keller & Reyna would suspend their "retired from national team duty for a couple of years" status to play in this one.
