Quick question and I feel like you guys could help me find the answer. You'll all probably recall back in 2009, during the qualifier between Mexico and the US at Azteca, NBC (or who ever was broadcasting the match in English) showed a shot of US military members cheering for Mexico. Any of you have a link to the video of it, or a gif of it? Thanks
I don't remember them being shocked, and I watched both English and Spanish versions. Why do you wanna see this again, do you know any of those soldiers?
Sounded like they were shocked , but maybe my memory's gone to shit. & the only reason I wanted to see this again was because a local AO Tucson member is heading to Afghanistan at the end of the month, so we're making sure that we give him a US jersey.
My cousins are big Mexico fans, they also work in the military, Navy, Army. I remember one of them told me there 'brothers' didn't care, they didn't give a f*ck for football. And also, "I love this country, but what does a sport have to do with me loving it?" True story.
Ok, thanks again. Hopefully this year, two things will happen. One, the scoreline is different in Azteca. & 2nd, when they show military members watching the match, there will be one US fan sitting in the crowd. & any news on the rumored August friendly at Azteca?
As far as I know, UEFA has asked FIFA to cancel the date. It could not come at the worst possible time for 95% of club teams
Is UEFA also against Mexico playing outside it's confederation? Thought I read that somewhere. What's it to them if Mexico plays outside of CONCACAF? CONCACAF already handicaps Mexico, but UEFA wants them to stop playing altogether. Doesn't seem right.
How 'bout we just don't play it at all. Another friendly against the nads does us no good, and helps them. Hopefully it won't happen. And hopefully unionfreak's friend never gets on TV
I know they should just cancel the damn thing and wait to play them until a WCQ where there's something at stake. You know how serious they take their friendlies, they brag until they turn blue if they win.
There was a US fan there, If you look closely at the video, on the very right side of the room there's a soldier with his arm on his knee. He's the only one not celebrating.
