Hasn't been confirmed by AFA yet, but a member of AUF claims Argentina and Uruguay are set to play two friendlies (home/away) in November (Nov 11th & 19th) for what would be a Rio de la Plata Cup https://www.tycsports.com/nota/amis...ay-podrian-jugar-la-copa-rio-de-la-plata.html The two sides have a long history of facing each other in similar competitions, such at the Copa Lipton and the Copa Newton.
What do you ********ing know? Looks like we’ll be playing Mexico again (surprise!) in September 📄 | NOTA ¡Mucha atención, Incondicionales! ✅ 😀 🇲🇽¡Jugaremos 🆚 🇦🇷 en San Antonio! So, it looks like we’ll also take on Chile on Sept 5 in LA! Sweet!
Besides the Germany friendly for our October FIFA dates, a match vs. Ecuador has just been confirmed (date pending; either the 14th or 15th) It is being said no River or Boca players will be called up since the FIFA dates land right between the two legs of their Copa Libertadores semifinals match-ups (October 1st and 22nd). That means no Palacios, Montiel, Martinez Quarta, Armani, Andrada, MacAllister, as well as other peripheral players like Casco, Marcone, Nacho Fernandez, Salvio, etc. It's a shame to miss the first three aforementioned player in particular vs. Germany as they appear to be important to the structure of our "new" team. Replaceable (Lanzini/Zaracho, Saravia/Foyth, Kannemann/Lisandro Martinez?), sure, but it would have been nice to test out the guys that did so well in the September friendlies vs. a top European team. No Messi or Lo Celso either, so we'll be taking on the Germans with somewhat of a weakened squad. Without Armani and Andrada, this will be Marchesin's golden opportunity to move his way up in consideration for the GK position, which is clearly up for grabs at the moment. I wonder who the other 2 GKs will be to get a call-up... Musso, Rulli, Gazzaniga?
I wish CONMEBOL will just get on the same page with the UEFA CL and have a similar schedule. I know there are logistics and things that would need to be worked out with federations but c’mon, we are trying to build a team and we are going to be missing potentially key players. I guess Scaloni will have to continue to experiment and sometimes experimenting too much becomes a problem as well. But anyways. These should be good tests for us. Another CA in less than a year away and World Cup qualifiers are less than six months away. We need to hit the ground running. We cannot start off dropping points at home or losing points away to teams where we should at least get a draw. By the way, the draw will be held on December 3rd.
We just got to hope that Scaloni already has a squad of 23 by the November friendlies (with a few backups with the inevitable injuries the team is cursed with) that he's going to use for the March qualifiers and the Copa 20. I believe that Scaloni said something similar to what I said before our games vs Chile and Mexico on Sept. Sucks that the double superclasico is happening in Oct as I feel the players of both teams could have really benefited from the international exp vs a historical international team in Germany.
No Lo Celso, Lanzini or Palacios. This means we essentially have to play with a second string midfield. I would go with this: Marchesin Foyth - Otamendi - Pezzella - Tagliafico Zaracho - Paredes - De Paul - Vargas Dybala - Martinez
