I don't like it. Reminds a lot of what Klinsmann did in his first match as manager where he played 1 fw with no press against Mexico and we looked toothless. I think Wood is going to be isolated up top with no link-man. If we try to press for this to possibly work in all likelihood they shred it with speed of feet and mind. Hope I'm wrong. But I think he'll have to make changes at halftime or alter the shape beforehand. 442 with Green up top with Wood, or something like that. I wonder if he would have started Lletget had he not gotten injured. At least would have given the tactic a real shot. Didn't replace him afterward. I'd have even started Rowe or something like that to do a job. That hasn't been done enough by recent managers. They supply the rosters short in creation. The pool is light in this area, but there are adequate options and your offense needs to function.
Trapp has a negative domino effect on the rest of the squad. Trapp's traffic cone, limited field impact will cause McKennie and Adams to have to cover more leaving them providing less support for Green, Wood, and Arriola on both sides of the ball. Poor choice of formation for the talent on the squad.
I tend to agree but am willing to be pleasantly surprised. What I won't like to see is a repeat of Trapp at DMID if he shows his ass tonight.
Trapp can do well in this lineup. Im looking to see if he can get on the ball and dictate the tempo a bit. Thats the only way to stop Brazil and teams like that from continuously attacking. I think hes capable. Now its time to show. I want him to do well. I think Acosta may have been a better option like vs Portugal and Ghana. Not holding my breathe though.
It’s the wings that will get toasted tonight. Trapp would be better suited with Parks in front of him. That Mckennie/Adams pairing in midfield might be most overhyped duo to ever play for the US. No Weah and Nova? Again, I hate this lineup.
Earnie looks like he’s still growing into being a media figure. I still don’t know what exactly he’s supposed to do.
Yeah, not sure what to take away from that interview. He said they were preparing to begin the interview process. Then there was something about abstract American qualities... blah blah.
Not that one should generally expect the onus to be on creativity when lining up against Brazil, but this lineup is frustratingly creativity-bereft. The central midfield trio of McKennie-Adams-Trapp simply cannot be expected to create anything, and I don't see that as anything but a hang-on-by-the-seat-of-our-pants combination, a combo that we really ought not to consider anytime between now and the next World Cup except arguably the away matches at Mexico City and San Jose, if that...
Tite's pregame talk: "Gentlemen - I wish to murder the Americans. I want them dead. I want their motionless bodies at my feet at the end of the duration - and I will accept nothing less."
We hardly ever play decently against Brazil, and we hardly ever play decently against Costa Rica. Those two nations just seem to uniquely have our number.
