Oh good. This coincides nicely with our typical August/September slump. Guess I'll just start hanging up the scarves for the off-season now?
Yes, hang 'em up and I am not being sarcastic. We are in a bad spot for the final run, not being able to win on the road, let alone vs good teams, means we are done. Of course we will still go to the games and root our guys in but I will be cashing my tickets at the sportsbook counter as these guys are so easy to bet on and against in certain spots.
I didn't realize that. The last time I was in Vegas I didn't see any MLS options. Is only the money line available or other bets as well?
I've seen money line and odds to win the MLS Cup. You can also bet other leagues. Or go direct to Wm Hill locations or casinos they run the book. The mobile app is geolocated to only take bets in Nevada. You can also lay for EPL. https://www.williamhill.us/wagering-menu/
IMO ideal outcomes for this week: Toronto over DC Montreal over Orlando Chicago over New England Quakes over Crew NYC over Red Bull SKC over ATL and Union beating Dallas. fantasy table would be at: TFC - 46 Fire - 41 NYC - 40 Red Bull - 35 ATL - 34 Crew - 32 ----------------------------------------- Orlando - 30 UNION - 29 Revs - 26 Impact - 27 DCU - 18 hahaha, we're toast. remaining schedule: v. Dallas v. Montreal @ Quakes @ TFC v. Atlanta @ Minnesota @ Red Bulls v. Chicago @ Atlanta v. Seattle @ Chicago v. Orlando there's what? maybe 9-12 feasible points in the last 12 games? pathetic.
I like that you're still taking the time to game out the best possible scenario despite knowing that it will never, ever be enough.
It's more of an illustration of just how much needs to go right for the Union while at the same time how much needs to go wrong for other teams. ... the Union lost control of their own destiny months ago, and when Curtin and Earnie talk about it being a long season and still being in the playoff picture that is them totally relying on other teams to screw up.
The thing with MLS is that more often than not, at least one team will rise to the occasion and accommodate another's seemingly-hopeless late season push. The 2016 Philadelphia Union are a perfect example of this phenomenon.
Jim or Jeff Curtin? Most of this actually happened aside from a TFC win (which was probably the least important outcome) and a ATL loss, but they still only pick up one point so all things consider this was a big make up ground week for the Union... Looking ahead to next week we should be rooting for the following: Timbers over TFC RSL over DCU Fire over Crew RBNY over Orlando Vancouver over Revs Galaxy over NYC Those results paired with a plausible Union win over the Impact would our us above the red line... most important is the Columbus loss paired with an Orlando loss or draw... both are very possible... Beating Montreal is by far the most important outcome though, obviously the 3 points are important, but giving the Impact any points out of this game is a major blow since they have 2 games in hand and are Nipping at our heels. this week could be huge if things fall in favor of the Union. Fantasy table would be at: Fire - 44 TFC - 44 NYC - 40 RBNY - 38 ATL - 35 UNION - 32 ---------------------- CLB - 32 ORL - 30 MTL - 27 NER - 26 DCU - 19
Union are going to sell a lot more beer than usual on Saturday night when fans show up an hour early for a 8:00 start.
just for the hell of it..... If Vancouver beats Red Bull the table stays put with all teams at 32 games... Then IF: Atlanta beats or ties the Red Bull And the Union beat the Fire... Going into last game of the season the table would sit at: Red Bull - 43/44 ——————— Union - 42 Montreal - 39/40/42 Revs - 39/40/42
I am not getting my hopes up. Our playoff chances hinge on NJRB getting no more than a point from their final three games while we would have to win our final 3 games. Given our track record, I don't see that happening. The more likely scenario is that we will finish 4-5 points out of the playoff race in 7th or 8th place and the FO will tell us the season was a great success because we won a record number of games and we were just a few unlucky bounces away from 6th place. Nevermind that we almost certainly would be systematically played off the field by Atlanta or NYC in our token playoff appearance. If the soccer gods intervened and the entire roster of our first-round opponent got food poisoning from their team meal the night before the game, we would run into the TFC buzzsaw in the 2nd round.
Correct. Red Bull cashes in their extra game on 10/7 at home vs. Vancouver. I don't think RBNY can win that game, but a draw isn't out of the question since they are at home.
