Yep, he should be eligible (nationality, not age is the issue). Question is then, would the Union allow him to go...

If my oldest, who's 8, can play on the U-8 team, then I see no reason why DJ's situation is any different. :whistling:

I'd love to see DJ playing in the U-8 league. I'm sure he would crush it. Literally.

Derrick Jones has made a tremendous impact on the U-20s so far after two matches. He's been key to disrupting the opposition and controlling the midfield since he came on for the injured Gedion Zelalem. While he still has an issue here and there with his passing decisions, I'm becoming more impressed with his skills on the ball as a holding midfielder.

I was expecting this. He has been a regular callup for Bosnia, had good form the last few games for the Union, and their match against Greece is huge since they can move into 2nd place in their group if with a win. Bosnia have more qualifiers in August, September, and October that he may also be called up for.

Read somewhere that report day for Bosnia is June 1. Hopefully he can report late and not miss the NYCFC match

Bedoya called up. Looks like its effective immediately and he'll miss Saturday's game

I think he's gone. I'd want to go early if I were him, that's a +7 hour time change. That's real jet lag, you can't roll off the flight and be 100% without a couple days to acclimate.

Spoiler alert for U-20 World cup below

Austin Trusty on in the 76th minute for the U-20 World Cup quarterfinal match v New Zealand. Derrick Jones was serving suspension for card accumulation. Scan on for more...

Sweet move by Trusty results in a corner that he then finishes with a blast for a score in the 84th minute followed by a Jordan tongue and a 4 dab celebration. US wins 6-0 to face Venezuela next.

Trusty surprised me a bit with that strike today, but it was fantastic. He certainly likes to dab.

Jones struggled on the ball against the high-pressing Venezuela midfield. He definitely needs to improve his touch and develop his ability in traffic. Thankfully, he's young.

Seems like everyone is pretty meh about the Gold Cup call ups. Anyone else think Fafa or CJ would bring more to the team than Pontius?

Pontius won't see the field, so I dunno. I'm not a fan of CJs game so I'd be in favor of him not on the U for any reason, However, he Unions season is over and the US did nothing wrong to deserve him.

I don't get the CJ push... and comparing him to Pontius/Saief is silly... you need to compare him to Agudelo, Morris and Dwyer... not sure I'd argue him displacing any of them.

I do agree wearing my USMNT hat I'd rather see Fafa get a shot over Pontius on the left, but maybe Bruce sees Chris as a more of a like for like replacement, where Fafa is better fit to replace a Zardes or someone like that.

CJ has also played well at RW when moved there so I'd disagree that it's silly to compare him to Pontius. His game translates over to that position just fine. It does say more about Pontius that his striker might do as well he might in that spot.

Ok, I think my antiCJ bias is showing. I disagree he's played well on the wing. If anything, he disappears when Simpson plays with him.

CJ does some things well. He plays physical. He can hold the ball until help arrives. He can sometimes draw a foul and spot kick.
However, let's be honest, his touch is not great. The ball always seems to spring off his foot a yard too far allowing the defender to close and dispossess. He isn't fast. I'm not saying he's Ariestguieta slow, but he's not a burner. And not deceptively quick either, he looks to post up, not beat guys on the dribble. I want that in a wing. I want Fafa beating guys and stretching defenses. CJ doesn't have that, or if he does, I've never seen him use it. Fafa, Alberg, Ilsinho and even Pontius before his confidence crash all will fire from outside the box if there's even a glimmer of daylight at net. CJ's shots are almost all from the 6 and in. He is what he is at 28, a striker who is physical. I don't think he's been snubbed by the USMNT, this is his ceiling and it's not good enough to be an international.

Bedoya was decidedly "meh". But then again so was the entire team that game.
