He was average. Beat RB late one year and become everyones favorite player (myself included).

Currently on loan to La Equidad. Hasn't played a single minute since leaving the Union.

    Kleberson.

Sure he was only here for Adu-related salary reasons. However the guy had talent and showed it in the few minutes he found on the field. There was no reason NOT to play him more since he was here anyway.

Statistically, he was the most prolific CAM we had until Maidana came around. He generated goals/assists at a much quicker rate than Farfan, Adu, or Daniel. The only problem is the Hack refused to give him minutes. He really should have been a player this team built around.

Eh, Kleberson was an old man on broken down knees. Roger was an up and coming player. Kleberson may have been able to help us for a season or two. Roger should have been someone we built around. I still think Roger had the best vision of anyone who ever played here.

roger was 4'-10" and if the wind was coming off the river anything above 15mph he struggled to stay upright.

I guess Joao Plata and Sebastian Giovinco are shit players because they are short. Roger is 2 inches taller than Plata and an inch taller than Giovinco. He weighs the same as both. This is soccer, not football. You don't need to be an athletic freak of nature to be successful.

As much as we liked Roger when he was here, I think one only needs to look at his career since he left to draw any/all conclusions about him. What has he done? Where has he gone?

I don't think anything points to him being an opportunity missed or lost, based on his trajectory from here.

If I recall correctly, he destroyed his knee while trialing for another team which is the issue.

Like Pfeffer back in 2011 (?) against RBNY.
So if he hadn't left, his knee would've been fine, and he'd be an MLS superstar? ;)

Fact of the matter is, he wasn't someone Hackworth rated highly, regardless of whether the fanbase had him up on some popularity pedestal.

Roger also played like he was 4'-10" Rogey doesn't carry the same skills as Plata or Giovinco either silly kid.

And yet he was still the second most prolific CAM we have ever had, more so than "bigger guys." This is soccer, not football or basketball. Technique > size

Was Paunovic not used as a CAM? The next Pele was also a CAM, though Hack would stifle him on the wing. How are we defining "prolific"?

    Roger Torres-"The Columbian Kai Herdling"

More assists/goals per minute than any CAM's not named Chaco. This includes "big" players like Keon Daniel and Michael Farfan.

Paunovic had an assist or goal every 206 minutes.

Roger Torres had an assist or goal every 164.5 minutes.

    he only pla

he only played 165 minutes! "big" doesn't not equal Marfan or Peon!

I agree the numbers look good but I don't see him as someone we 'lost'

He played 2138 career minutes with this team . . .

Keon is 6'1". Clearly he is a star player by your logic since he was tall.

The logic that I used is as follows:

    1. I took into account the players best year with us only.
    2. I put Le Toux in as a striker, though he is obviously not a target striker.

    Mondragon
    Williams Califf Valdes Harvey
    Edu Nogs
    Mapp Maidana Wenger
    Le Toux

Now taking into consideration their best-year performance elsewhere regardless of their Union form:

    Mondragon
    Williams Orozco Valdes Harvey
    Edu Nogs
    Mapp Maidana Salinas
    Le Toux

    A few side notes:
    1. Isn't Mapp a RM?
    2. I recall Orozco being horribly error prone. He looked like he had the tools to be a quality player for us, but I feel like the consensus at the time was that we would have been fine with him staying, but it wasn't the end of the world that he left.

You only put 10 guys in. The team is rocking a 4-4-1.

I was a big Torres fan. I wanted to see him get more minutes; I think most fans felt the same way. I don't think the biggest issue was necessarily his diminutive stature (though that was a factor). He lacked pace, but his positioning and skills made up for that. I think the issue was that he was not committed or just did not have the tools to play both sides of the field. I think his biggest problem was his lack of endurance - he just seemed to run out of gas. He made Maidana look like the energizer bunny.

Woops. OK, throw Nogs in the middle behind Maidana for both.

However, I am curious..... what Roger could do (or would do) with this team. Although we are garbage record, I think this is a much more individually talented team that we have had over all 6 years.
