impressed by the goal by Iceland's Jensen(#15), anybody know more about her? btw..........remember that Germany had 7 different starters compared to their gold medal winning game at last year's Olympics. But still, Jones needs to go. Her style of(possibly called the dfb manual) of winning the mid field first through short passing game is hopelessly out dated, especially in woso, it allows almost no fast breaks counter attacks, no long balls & almost no wing play(until the FB's move up). And all this sort of slow poke play gives opponents plenty of time to set up their defenses
This is virtually unprecedented during qualifying. This is the time they can update rules, or make their own innovative rules.
I had a vision of @WWC_Movement sitting in the FIFA board and making his own "innovative rules". The end of this sport as you knew it!
Not much. Elin Metta Jensen, 22 years old. 31 caps, the goal against Germany was her 8th for the NT. Plays her club football back home for Valur, who finished third in the Icelandic league, which ended a few weeks ago. Jensen was the second best goalscorer in the league, 16 goals in 17 matches. Wouldn't be surprised if her next career move is Norway or Sweden soon.
Well, German defender (who was she?) looked quite awkward in that action, but the way Jensen turned and shot was in fact awesome and made German defense look miserable.
I'd say that Iceland has other player that's very much overlooked. #2 Sif Atladottir - she caught my eye with solid performance vs. France and Switzerland during EURO's and was one of the best vs.Germany as well. Where does she play?
Good player. She has for years played in Kristianstad, Sweden. Damallsvenskan. Her father, Atli Edvaldsson, was an accomplished player in the Bundesliga back in the 1980s. Atladottir is actually born in Germany.
that's lil Leonie..........but I don't get how in the 3rd goal, it's the DM, Melanie Leupolz, as last defender, trailing Daegny before she scores(where the heck was GE's back line?) Interesting is that Daegny failed to score a goal this season in the NWSL, much less lost her starting spot to the lesser known Aussie, Ashley Sykes on the Portland Thorns btw...........any full game replay out there?(WWC_Movement.....work your magic!)
One match just finished today: GROUP 7 Finland vs Serbia 1-0 Tenkov 79(og) The Finns have ambitions under new coach Anna Signeul. Good start, but I doubt they'll trouble Austria and Spain.
Daegny was hurt for the first part of the season, pretty well into the second half of it. The Thorns were on a roll when she was back, ready to play, and Mark Parsons' approach is not to make changes if the team is doing really well. When she did get into games, she was fantastic.
I don't quite understand the scheduling for these qualifiers. Some teams have played three matches already and The Netherlands has yet to play a single one. They draw Norway in their first match while the Norwegians have played two so far. Let's hope the Dutch ladies make good use of the rest that they have had.
New development in the Denmark-Sweden saga. The Danes want to reschedule the cancelled game to November. DBU has approached SvFF with that suggestion. The Swedes are divided about that idea. The Swedish FA says no, but several Swedish players say yes, one of them is Magdalena Eriksson, Pernille Harder's girlfriend.
Now even the love-story involved? I anyway suggest @WWC_Movement as a moderator between the two federations: after all, the idea of rescheduling the game is primarily of his own!
the group qualifiers take over an year to complete, so there's be plenty of time to catch/make up games. Here's a list of the group games http://us.women.soccerway.com/inter...fying-europe/2019/group-stage/group-c/g10892/ click on to matches 'next' and you'l see, the return NOR/NED match is only on Sep, 9th, 2018. and beware, this is a very tough group. the two Irish teams are not to be underestimated. They might not play all that well as a cohesive team, but they got potential; Northern Ireland's Magil had a phenom performance recently as her Everton squad took on Man City(about half of ENG starting lineup) with Magil's goal & assist at AM causing shock waves in MC's defense & nearly getting the upset. Over at Rep of Ireland; Megan Campbell has just about the most wicked 'throw in' in the world while Denise O Sullivan proved to be an outstanding asset in her Courage squad that won the regular NWSL season. The Courage got the rep as the world's most physical team, so the svelte O'Sullivan making the starting lineup(while more well known players were released) shows how good shse can be. So lots can happen over the up coming year, in the meantime NOR/NED game should be quite good. NED will have to look out for the meteoric rise of Thorisdottir, a powerful build athletic type performer who I thought was instrumental in Chelsea's recent win over Bayern Munich in the Champions League
The fixture list for the qualifiers was agreed on a long time ago with representatives from all countries present at the table. Netherlands played Austria away in a friendly on Thursday. Norway haven't played a match since September. The extra rest factor shouldn't be overstated.
Thanks. It's so hard getting any news about the Dutch Women's team. The KNVB (the Dutch FA) website carries almost nothing other than the European Cup victory. I can't find any news even about the upcoming match against Norway!
One match today. Predictable win. GROUP 7 Israel vs Spain 0-6 Paredes 37,57, Hermoso 43,84, Latorre 73, Sampedro 90+1
