"Strange encounters with elegant females" is actually the title of a Japanese novel from the 19th century ("Kajin no kiguu"). With the knock-out stage starting this week, let's see how well it fits this season's CL. Swiss champions FC Zurich are certainly setting the scene in style: For their CL home match against Croatian club ŽNK Osijek next week, they are looking for male escorts as mascots. Apply here! Sorry, the small print says you have to be a resident of Switzerland.
That was great, thanks for sharing it. Can anyone remember an upset like FC BIIK-Kazygurt 2-2 FFC Frankfurt in women's football?
That's a good one. Umeå were a bit dialed down in 2010 (8 wins in 22 matches) but should have pasted them. That Frankfurt team is pretty stocked up with people like Boquete, Marozsán, Laudehr, Garefrekes, Fishlock, Schmidt, Crnogorčević. A 2-2 result against Kazakhstan seems like an April Fools headline.
And here they are, strutting onto the pitch. Click to the end if you want to skip a couple of minutes of "aaaawwwwing" at Swiss accents, but you'll miss one of the "escorts" (who looks like a happy tortoise) being interviewed.
Anybody got *sources*?! I've only been able to find ONE single match being broadcast/webcast this weekend, and that's tomorrow's match between Rosengård and Fortuna Hjörring. Rosengård realised no Swedish channel would be picking it up, so hired a production company to stream it via Youtube. A link to the match should be found on the website of local newspaper, Sydsvenskan. (I just had to edit that hyperlink there, since what I originally provided was an Icelandic description of a piece of knitting. )
PSG v OL Live on Be in Sports France Barcelona v Bristol delayed on Barca TV Frankfurt v Torres on Eurosport Zurich v Glasgow on https://www.mycujoo.tv/fczurichfrauen
It seems like Eurosport Germany is showing the Frankfurt match, but others (e.g. Eurosport Sweden) aren't. I made the mistake of checking Sweden and Switzerland and Swaziland. No, not really Swaziland. I just got into a nice rhythm.
A couple of them (and the happy tortoise isn't one of them) look as if they could stand to run a few more laps after practice. Nice!
Nobody has put the link to the whole match here yet? Well, okay then. Dandal, on a certain bird-themed social media site, draws our attention specifically to the 8:30 mark, for Ali Riley's "...lovely 'It's match day' intro". What Dandal person failed to mention was that she does it in Swedish! (and not just any Swedish, but Skånska) Oh goodness, how quickly those kids learn. I hate kids. harrumph. tots jel.
And if you don't want to watch the whole thing, here's the highlights... .... plus super Oldies Alert! See Frida Östberg interviewed here and there about the game. Her hair's gotten very long, but her bangs remain short. The 'lunatic fringe', I've heard it called.
Get up Glasgow City FC! I have a box of chocolates here from Lyon. Think I'll have one in memorium. Goodness, such news from UWCL. What excitement awaits us tonight?
Yes, although I believe this one is meant to be a little more light-hearted and conversational. Where any fan of Lyon might come to let their true feelings pour out in a long-winded rant; to post something expressing their level of existential despair. Or where someone whose team has just scored a glorious and unexpected come-from-behind victory might dare to say "Yippee!" as loudly as they want. I, for example, will almost surely be here for the next round in about four months, complaining bitterly about the unfairness of the schedule. At that time, any Swedish teams who have managed to survive November's foggy freeze will almost certainly utterly disgrace themselves in the local version of March madness. And beside, we needed an excuse to see the Zurich mascot tryouts.
FC Rosengård beats Tuna Herring 2-0. Hooray! Now Damallsvensan has two chances to disgrace in March, before its domestic season even begins. (See? I'm complaining already.)
Well, they could get Glasgow or Bristol which IIRC both also have spring-fall seasons , or of course each other. Getting Bröndby they should still have a good chance but against PSG or one of the German team in the next round they would be humiliated..
Well those two and Linköping is the only team they have any real chance to beat (and that is still just a small one).
The draw happens very soon... What lucky team will win a trip to Linkers? Random observations: each team gets moving pics except for Rosengård, and I personally really wish that Frankfurt would get a new logo. All I can think when I see it is Stripey Barbie. Stripey Barbie v Bristol Wolfie v Rosie Glasgow v ... PSG! Oj. Linkers v "their neighbors" Brøndby
All-German "or indeed, all-Swedish" final a possibility. (but not, by implication, a probability) www.uefa.com/womenschampionsleague/news/newsid=2181648.html The upper half is stacked. (if you'll forgive the phrasing...)
