71' 1-1 USA left ck, bends in toward right side netting, far post defender heads it back across mouth and over Kuhlmann's head at left post. 75' 1-1 Through-ball for #10 Montseratt Hernández to 12m left post, #4 Girma recovers and pokes ball over. 75' 1-1 Mexico left ck, cleared.
76' 1-1 Sánchez dummies(?) over ball at arc top mid-right for Tagliaferri facing ball at 15m -- but she wasn't expecting it, misses the trap? Rolls to Aguirre. 78' 1-1 Ivory gk past circle top, Mexico clangs and USA settles at 30m center. Flat pass right to #14 Kuhlmann in a wide 1-v-1 -- she advances to arc top wide right, then cuts inside to box top mid-right, shross left instep -- interesting bend, but stays wide left and high. 78' 1-1 USA subs in (3 of 3) #3 Sophia Smith for #19 Kate Wiesner.
79' 1-1 Mexico shields 1-v-2 at 12m mid-right, shoots across body toward left post low. Ivory sprawls at 1/3 left but fumbles the catch, ball spins through her hands and over endline left. 80' 1-1 Mexico left ck, onto the roof 81' 1-1 Sánchez passes from box top center to #3 Smith unmarked at 13m mid-right. Smith darts to 3m 6-right, square cross low just behind Sánchez overrunning to goalline, misses Kuhlmann and hits a defender. Mexico nervously flicks clear, USA settles at 14m right post. Pass into a 1-v-1 at 10m 1/4 left -- diagonal pass to Sánchez open at 7m 1/3 right, one clear step onside! Calm standing right-instep dink shot to left post, beats Aguirre and trickles in. Flag up, offside Maybe she was in an offside position on the 1st entry pass, and came back in time for the 2nd one?
84' 1-1 Tagliaferri shoots from arc top right to right post low, Aguirre dives and blocks but soft rebound to 2m 5-right. Kuhlmann pounces first, turns a shot on-frame, #2 Ashley Soto slide-blocks over. 85' 1-1 USA right ck, into the scrum at 5m 1/4 left, all jump, bullet header over bar. 86' 1-2 #3 Smith runs around a stiff side-by-side challenge past 25m right touch, leans to maintain left-shoulder-in-front advantage. #14 Civana Kuhlmann lurks up centerline to 15m, Mexico has 3 straggling across 9m. Smith holds up at arc top mid-right, bends a deadly cross way behind Mexico's line to 6m right post. Kuhlmann accelerates through the line and nobody acquires her -- alone to 6m, another rocket volley off her knee, over shocked Aguirre's fingertips into the roof. Dogpile tackle!
88' 1-2 #19 Juárez chests ball facing away at box top center, spin-cw-and-shoot, just over bar. Replay shows Ivory got a fingertip on it. +2'. 90+1' (of +2') 1-2 Mexico subs in (3 of 3) #18 Veronica Alvalos for #14 Reyna Reyes. 90+2' (of +2') 1-2 #11 Ovalle turns to box top mid-left, ball rattles through #10 Sánchez(?)'s legs as she sit-sprawls -- and into box at 15m mid-left for Ovalle to pounce!! Ovalle touches to 10m 6-left, hard left instep shot rises -- off left post, bounces over endline. Welp, that means she missed the gaping frame by a lot ... FT 1-2.
Ovalle for Mexico plays like she belongs on the senior team. She has balance, control, positioning, and vision.

Yes, I was having trouble recording the USA vs Canada semifinal match, but I should be able to record and upload it by tomorrow. Also, I was able to capture the USA vs Mexico final today, which will be up soon.
New member here, but been reading for a bit. These games were really fun to watch, especially being a coach of similar aged players. Kuhlmann had some amazing runs.
I'm now uploading the SemiFinal match: USA vs Canada and the Final match: USA vs Mexico to Youtube (should be available in 2 hours)

I watched two or three games in this tournament. Sanchez immediately caught my eye. I thought at the time she could play up at much higher teams. U23 or even the Senior team. In the Mexico game, she seemed to get knocked off the ball fairly easy then I saw that she is only 5'3". Too small for the senior team at this point. I was far more impressed with Civana Kuhlmann in the Mexico game than Sanchez though Sanchez is still a great player. Civana seems to be a little heavier and that would help her a lot on the Senior team. She can shoot from outside the goal area with power using either foot and has above average speed. And she's committed to Stanford... all very impressive. In fact, I think she could give a Lloyd a run for her money these days
Civana impressed me too, but wait until she goes against at least U20 competition before talking about promoting anyone to senior team level!
Sanchez is almost 17 -- so maybe she won't grow any more. But she's taller than Dunn and Klingenberg right now. She played on the U-20s back in December and acquitted herself well. I'd say Sanchez is a possibility for the 2019 WC. She'll be 20 by then.
First time here, I like this U17 group. I don't know is it because the sport changing or something? I don't see any true attacking MF anymore??? I like Howell and Pinto a lot but they are more like central MF to me.
Being short isn't that much of a disadvantage. We've seen a number of smaller players stand out internationally. Dunn, Matheson, Klingenberg, De Vanna, and Gorry are all 5-2 and under, yet they've done really well for themselves
You're exactly right about height not being an important factor, but she could use some strengthening to help her against the better defenders she will face in the future.
Depends on the formation being used, but yeah, looked like neither of them played true attacking MF. I like the flexibility and creativity it allows.
Short is a problem if you're on a team that depends on crosses and resulting headers to score. Not a big problem right now but seems to be a bigger part of the attack on the higher levels. Maybe short isn't exactly correct in my original post. I guess I do mean stronger. I saw Mexico knocking her off the ball on multiple occasions and that will only get worse as you move up in age groups. Still, its always a pleasure to see a team attack like this team does and wish that was what we were doing on the Sr team.
I'm surprised more people are talking about how good Mexico is. USA had a hard time possessing in the final third for a large part of this match. players from both sides are good. Ovalle, Pinto impressed me. Sanchez has very very quick feet, fun to watch.
