Presumably this is the formation? -------------Altidore------Wood------------- ----Pulisic--Bradley--Kljestan--Bedoya---- Johnson--Gonzalez--Cameron--Birnbaum --------------------Howard-------------------- In theory, it could be a 3-5-2 with Johnson and Bedoya as wingbacks, especially since there's nothing on the line in tonight's match.
Kljestan and Bradley actually started a qualifier against Trinidad and Tobago as the central midfield pairing 8 years ago.
I guess Birnbaum will be playing RB, I thought for sure Orosco was brought for that. Pleasant surprise, UNLESS, JK Puts Cameron as a RB.
Most unKlinsmann lineup ever. Rubin in at 60'? Can Morris get another chance? Really would be shocked if we didn't see Zusi or Becks this game.
Gotta give him credit for pivoting to Kljestan + Pulisic after what he saw. Is that a diamond? If so, I don't know about that part. Pulisic would be playing deep, and don't know about Bradley's cover. Would have aligned them significantly differently, even with the same personnel. 433 with Wood wide, Pulisic opposite, Bedoya next to Kljestan. Hopefully it morphs throughout the game. Most important thing are it's a much better lineup than was being inkled and was expected. Worry about the width on the right side with Cameron and Bedoya. Could be a heavy left-sided team, they may figure that out, and shift their d over. Then we'd either need to realign or hit some really good long switches.
