FOX may not be doing as well as ESPN in years past but they may still be happy (Beating Telemundoi for eyeballs): http://worldsoccertalk.com/2018/06/28/fox-beating-telemundo-world-cup-tv-ratings/
They're doing a lot better than I expected. I'm sure they're happy. Anyone have a link to all match audiences on ESPN/2/ABC for the 2010 Cup?
Without mentioning any specific results, FOX may be getting a little nervous about quarter, semi and final marketability.

People are all talking about ratings but I think streaming is what people should be focusing upon. Fox set a streaming record during the World Cup on Monday and the record before that was the previous week Maybe FIFA will get smart and separate the streaming rights for 2030 (Although according to some here everyone might by streaming by then and cord tv as we know it dead.)
And something people have to remember about streaming is that FOX can force you to watch advertisements before the streams start. So they should be more lucrative and valuable. On my Dish I can skip any commercials I want.
Obviously streaming is important, but traditional TV ratings are what ratings nerds will talk about because the comps to 2014, 2010, etc are clearer that way. FOX PR certainly talking about streaming a lot because the numbers have been good and it's an easy way to combine the two audiences for more impressive numbers.
I think it is not only smart to focus on those streaming numbers but it is just plain truth to see them as important. Mostly because of the captive advertisement audience element I specified.
http://www.sportsmediawatch.com/2018/07/mls-ratings-fox-atlanta-seattle-world-cup/ Sunday’s Atlanta-Seattle MLS match, which aired immediately after the FIFA World Cup final, earned a 0.9 rating and 1.56 million viewers on Fox, the second-largest regular season audience in league history.
The Final turned out great for FOX. It was supposedly a 3% increase from the 2014 Final numbers on ABC.
Is that from a FOX source? Pure Nielsen TV match ratings were down huge from 2014. Good recap: http://www.sportsmediawatch.com/2018/07/world-cup-ratings-fox-telemundo-final/
Little bit of data from the start of the UEFA contract with Turner http://www.sportsmediawatch.com/2018/08/mlb-ratings-tennis-wnba-uefa/ http://www.sportsmediawatch.com/2018/08/uefa-ratings-tnt-nascar-trucks-fox-mlb/
Just like I said about the Serie A on ESPN, the average Joe fan is probably still thinking FOX has the rights. Heck if it were not for this Forum on Bigsoccer I probably would still think the same thing.
Matchups are important too. A Premier League club v big Continental side usually does better than two Continental sides. Overall I think things will take time for ESPN and TNT. But they’re both available in a lot of homes on basic subs, so when the matchups are good and people know where to look, they’ll tune in.
I think Turner should be happy with a 29% percent drop from last season with Liverpool to Turner having a game without either clubs from the top leagues. I think it's expected that Real Madrid would get more viewers against Manchester United than against Atletico Madrid and more viewers against Atletico than against Sevilla. I don't think the Super Cup ratings are something Turner should be criticized for. I'm not saying that Turner will get good ratings for the season, but I don't like the headlines from Sports Media Watch because all other things aren't equal compared to last season.
-- CBS posts smallest Week 3 singleheader audience in 14 years-- Mostly down weekend for MLB-- UEFA Champions League group stage hits high on Univisionhttps://t.co/AN607Iz9HI— Sports Media Watch (@paulsen_smw) September 26, 2018 Some interesting numbers inside. Liverpool-PSG: 330k on TNT, 672k on Univision networks. Barca-PSV: 164k on TNT, 618k on Univision networks. I think TNT has some work to do in making viewers aware of their 4 game per matchweek offerings. And also they face unprecedented competition from a Spanish language power in this new deal. Though it should be said 330k for the Liverpool 3pm kickoff is a big increase from FS1's first UCL 2:45 ko last season (a less interesting Man Utd-Basel drew 188k). http://www.showbuzzdaily.com/articl...cable-originals-network-finals-9-19-2018.html Madrid-Roma drew 235k on Wednesday (up about 100k from Spurs-Dortmund last season on FS1). Man FS1 puts up some shitty soccer ratings (World Cup excluded, of course )
Univision did a great job promoting their UEFA properties during Mexican League coverage and MLS games.
Not really a fair comparison given that the FS1 games were up against 7 or so other games available for free on other channels or authenticated streaming, whereas the TNT game was the only game available for free in English.
The business model would be fine if the games they are charging for weren’t available for free on Univision.
