Interesting. I think that would really be okay, but people seem to be saying you can't really get all that much allocation money any more...or this year since there aren't true standouts. It seems a very tough decision if the amount of allocation money one could get isn't at least pretty good. Because if the game of allocation money and fitting under a budget, GA status and salaries that don't count are attractive. We'll see if there's two to tango.
Yeah, I’d think if there really was a market for top picks, we’d see more selling - and deals between teams that value the draft vs those that don’t. But it’s likely that no teams really think the draft is going to net them much, so the 2nd pick isn’t that much more attractive than the 12th pick or whatever.
Yup, for a pick that turned into Justin Meram. Terrible trade when looking at it as Lenhart vs Meram. Decent trade if you assume the Quakes would have drafted another Sam Garza / JJ Koval type.
It’s not even a rumor, but someone pointed out that Peruvian goal keeper Pedro Gallese had his Wikipedia page listing his 2019 team as San Jose Earthquakes. He is supposedly signed by Veracruz and being loaned out to Alianza Lima in Peru. Could Almeyda have had the Quakes outbid AL for his service on loan? Interesting the Quakes just added a Peruvian in Lopez. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/Dw0GB2bXgAAd2vb?format=jpg&name=large
Yeah, but this is also out there. 🚨 Peru goalkeeper Pedro Gallese was close to joining a club in the Liga MX, but now the Mexican transfer window is closed. His next option is likely to be in MLS or Peruvian first division club Alianza Lima! #MLS pic.twitter.com/IhLVAMEhJv— MLS Transfer Zone (@MLS_ZONE) December 28, 2018 Strange. Maybe the Quakes still have paperwork to get approved and don’t want to jump the gun?
https://art19.com/shows/74-til-infinity/episodes/36a40ee1-870f-40e1-a212-a9c7ee2ac18a First few minutes Joel Soria says Quakes are looking to sign Veteran GK Mario Vega within the next couple days.
The Quakes are actively shopping Tarbell around the league. Who’s gonna want him? I don’t hate him but he’s damaged goods in SJ. He needs a fresh start somewhere else.
yeah not sure who's going to want Tarbell. hes a guy that should try an overseas gig if anything, see if he can latch on in Sweden or Norway.
I assume this is him? Currently with the Rowdies. Played at River from 2007-2012 before bouncing around a bit.
Interesting, Vega is Argentine. Almeyda probably has a good read on him...hope he still has some spring in his legs. We desperately need experience at keep.
So...if we were to sign a DP, what position do people think is the priority? Wait till the summer transfer window when there’s a bigger pool of players....or learn from the past that we can be out of it by when that window opens and find somebody ASAP?
I think we need a DP striker. Someone who can score on free kicks would be nice. Wondo and Hoesen are great but IMHO the lack of depth here is a weakness.
Btw, when was the last time we scored directly from a free kick? In my mind, I see Muma and Corrales but there must be someone more recent. Right?
Supposedly German GK Andreas Luthe received an offer from an unnamed MLS team. We were an “unnamed team” after Lopez so maybe this guy is a possibility. 31 year old back up.
Conversely, how many direct scores from free kicks did the Quakes concede last season? Seem to recall at least a couple at Avaya (Valeri and Fagundez), and the Quakes dropped points as a result.
They played together at River from 2009 to 2011. Hopefully since he's been playing in Florida since 2016 he's either got a green card or is close to getting one.
I think we wait for summer and see what we need. Depending on what formation we play we could need either a #10 or #9 and it doesn't seem like they have a set formation in mind right now.
