It was 20 years ago today when Stern John scored in the MLS All-Star Game in San Diego. Yes, kiddos...a city to not even have a team once hosted an ASG. With that said, unless someone can prove me wrong, my memory wants to say that the game was scheduled to be on ABC, but was bumped to ESPN/2 due to coverage of JFK Jr's plane crash.
If he hadn't crashed his plane, he might be president today. No, I'm not being political--I just enjoy alternate history stories--and recalling this....
Remember when Trapp ripped this beauty? A year ago today, @wil_trapp did this...#Crew96 pic.twitter.com/53mg94w0n9— The Crew (@ColumbusCrew) July 21, 2019 Bendik still has nightmares.
An inexperienced pilot,I don't believe he had his IFR qualification, who made a bad choice to fly at dusk in an area that had haze and foggy conditions. Bad choices can happen even if you are rich and famous!
That's correct, he only had his VFR. As we're all taught, airplanes don't crash because of one event - it's the result of a series of choices or events.
I looked a little deeper and found out he only had 35 hours in that plane and only three hours without his instructor in the plane with him. The article said that he took off a t sunset and instead of flying mainly across land then making a short crossing water he flew direct access the ocean. This caused disorientation because he would not see the lights on the ground while flying over the water!
On this day in 2011, Columbus Crew lost 6-2 to Seattle Sounders. Jeff Cunningham scored a goal to cut the lead to 4-1 and in doing so passed Jamie Moreno to become the (then) MLS All Time Leading Goal Scorer. Fear Jeff Cunningham.
Hesmer out there thinking he was playing FIFA. This has to be a top 5 Crew moment. Watching all the defenders turn around in disbelief thinking “what the fnck is he doing here!?” Right before he slams it into the back of the net is priceless.
