We know 21 is Atlanta (in 2017) and 22 is LA (in 2018.) What are the next 6 expansions teams. You get to vote 4 times. If you vote other reply to the thread with your answer.
I'm not positive, but I'm going for Minnesota as 23 and Miami as 24. I'm also putting some complete guess work on Sacramento being 25...
I almost made it 6, but I was worried that there wouldn't be any or little variation in the polling results. (We would all mostly pick the same 6) I figured having 4 votes will show more variation in the results and also show which teams are the favorites.
After one day of voting we have 2 clear leaders with 11 of the total 12 votes each... 23 and 24: Minnesota, Sacramento (11 votes) 25: Detroit (8 votes) 26 and 27: Miami, St Louis (4 votes) 28: Cincy (3 votes)
23-26 Minnesota, Miami, Sacramento, San Antonio 27-28 Cincinnati, Detroit Actually in the last guessing thread a month ago I guessed that St. Louis and Detroit would get 27-28 spots. But since that time, the more I hear about Cincy, the more realistic it all sounds. And Detroit obviously got a couple owners since that last thread. So I dropped St. Louis. That said, no way is Detroit no. 25, their current stadium plan is equivalent to Miami's waterfront stadium, i.e. a massive complicated project, maybe it happens, maybe it doesn't, and either way, it won't be quick.
You don't need a stadium to join... you need a viable stadium plan. They could easily rent out space at Ford field (Detroit Lions Stadium) while their home stadium is being constructed.
It has to make business sense. Rent is an additional expense, and their revenue in that stadium would certainly be lower across the board. They'd pay money to play in someone else's too big stadium where they'd likely have poor atmosphere and thus lesser ticket / suite sales, lower sponsorships, likely struggle to get a decent local TV deal because the product would look bad, and lack control over stadium revenue streams like naming rights, concerts and what not. I mean it's possible, maybe they could be the next Sounders with huge crowds and it would all make business sense. But it's a bit wishful thinking. I think more likely they'd start after getting a stadium.
IF it's approved and under construction, perhaps MLS would allow them to rent Ford Field. If there's not concrete approved plans, nothing will happen in Detriot, or any other city.
3 days in and here are the results... 23 Sacramento (17 votes) 24 Minnesota (16 votes) 25 Detroit (10 votes) 26 & 27 Miami & St Louis (7 votes) 28 San Antonio (5 votes)
I think we can pretty much chisel in stone Minnesota at #23... http://northernpitch.com/_/minnesot...x-exemption-for-minnesota-united-stadium-r871
23- st paul, minnesota- 2017 along with atlanta 24- miami- 2018 along with LA 25/26- sacramento, st louis- 2020 27/28- detroit, LV- 2022 ** sacramento and miami could be switched (but there would have to be a conference realignment), but eventually miami will make it to MLS and i do think there will 29/30 and 31/32, all by 2026
After 2 weeks of voting here is how it stands. 23: Sacramento (28 votes) 24: Minnesota (27 votes) 25: Miami (13 votes) 26: Detroit (12 votes) 27: St Louis (11 votes) 28: San Antonio (9 votes)
Agree with that list, with Cincy as 29.......and now San Diego is getting their ducks in a row for 30 http://www.sandiegouniontribune.com/news/2016/jun/24/padres-seidler-major-league-soccer-sdsu-aztecs/
