The man himself, Colombia at its best.

Stores located in Bogotá (6), Medellín, Parque del Café (Quindío), Washinton DC, and New York.

I will definately try to go see the one in DC

I read about this a few months back and am happy that the NY store opened. I seems like the don't have grand plans ala Starbucks, at least initially, which is a shame because Juan Valdez is an icon that they can build the brand on.

It will be a fight, like Brazil vs Colombia last night, but I think people will be drawn to the new 'shop' in town.

I think this has a lot of potential.

Fill me in, don't more of the profits go directly to the growers?

I never understood how a cup of coffee can cost 3-4 bucks here, and the people growing it are making almost nothing.

Put these in college towns. People hate Starbucks.

I've visited Starbucks only one time in my life and I ended up throwing out most of the coffee. That's what I think about Starbucks.

I think these new shops are licensed by the Growers Federation that is owned by growers in Colombia so they do see some revenue from sales.

Unfortunately prices soar in part to the overhead these shops have in paying rent for locales.

the goal from all colombians is to see the pound coffe to go over .99 cts

we have been under .90 cts for way too long, part of the problems in the colombian country side is that FKKKKING price, that drives campesinos to grow or work for some one else (ya know who that is!)

    I love this subject!

back to the shop: I had check on the price tag of the franchise when president Uribe and the colombian coffee federation announced the project 2yrs ago...... I found an investor in Bogota to look at the market here in tx, and now the waiting list to get a shop is 1000 other investors.....

we will be very well ck out for reputation and deep pockets, the federation is very picky about his image (do not blame them.....)....in other words ----there goes my dream, I always wanted to run a coffee shop serving all releating products from the federation.....

I grew up spending all my summer breaks in a large coffee plantation! amaga, Ant

"In 1969, Carlos Sánchez of Medellín, Colombia, was chosen to replace José F. Duval, a New York based actor, who had until then portrayed Juan Valdez. Mr. Sánchez has been Juan ever since and is now one of the longest living fictitious characters for any advertising product."

I walked into a Cafe Oma in Bogota two years ago and had a cup of coffee.
It blew me away, i'd never had coffee that was so flavorful. Incredible.

I can envision Juan Valdez coffee shops spreading across this country.
It's a shame though, you have to already be rich to get in on an investment to get rich.

    http://advertising.yahoo.com/advertisingweek_05/icon_poll.html
