Most of Miami's residents are bilingual, and most speak Spanish at home. Most are first-generation immigrants. Many of them are quite wealthy, which is in contrast to the various Spanish-speaking communities in places like Los Angeles, where speaking primarily Spanish is almost always seen as a sign of being working-class. Wealthy Latinos and islanders have been coming to Miami since the Cuban diaspora, Latin American headquarters for over a thousand multinational companies are in Miami, particularly for technology, travel, entertainment, and retail heavy hitters like Disney, American Airlines, Sony, Microsoft, and Wal-Mart. Most major cruise line companies are headquartered there, as well as the corporate headquarters of entertainment and communications companies like Telemundo, Univision, RCTV, and Brightstar.
Nope... Is he my favorite player, No Is he arrogant just like Zlatan, Yes Would he generate advertising, ratings and money for the league while raising the quality! YES As long as a player is an asset for the league... bring it on! So do I want him here. Your darn right I DO!!
While your overall point is valid, I think it is important to note that Charlie wasn't driving the car. It was a friend. he was foolish to get into the car with someone who was intoxicated, but the distinction should be made.
From what I've seen, Star Island kinda life beats Bel Air and Malibu, let alone Tribeca and any commutable location in the Boston area. Plus if you and your family are European, Miami's easy. Closer than LA and lots of flights.
According to Orlando City SC, Larin didn't know the alcohol was there and he had no intent to break the law. The club will appeal the arrest with the Independent Review Panel.
Their supporters on twitter are lamenting their recent misfortune, wondering what they did to deserve this. And here I figured karma was going to arrive with Penso on Saturday.
No. I was responding to these two bits of information: "Larin took two breathalyzer tests after being taken into custody, troopers said. On the first test he registered a .179 and on the second he registered a .182, according to the arrest report." and this: I didn't see how one really related - or more importantly - explained the other. However, I deleted the post because I just ........ I don't know, I just didn't want to go on and on about this incident. I imagine we've pretty much said all we there is to say.
I'm not sure why you quoted me. I made no reference at all to Charlie whatsoever. What Larin did stands on its own merits. Edit: Upon reflection, I suspect you must believe that I was thinking of the potential of Larin killing someone in the car WITH HIM, and thought that was me harkening back to the Davies situation. That is not so. In fact, Davies never even crossed my mind when I wrote that. I am talking about the prospect of Larin mowing down someone else on the road in his drunken stupor. I, and many others, know completely innocent people who have had their lives changed forever by an idiot in another car driving while totally smashed.
Concacaf is headquartered there. A lot of companies have their Latin American HQ there and use small offices in other countries. Plus, a lot of empty condos sit in Miami which are paid for and used to stash cash.
....and don't forget about the growing, and usually wealthy/upper middle class Brazilian population that has taken root over the last decade. Many are fleeing the turmoil down there....they speak Portuguese!
Of course Davies then swapped seats with a teammate with a suspended license in France to make it appear like he had been driving. Then, after returning to MLS with DC United - the city where he was in the fatal alcohol related crash that ruined his international career - after scoring a goal, he jumped the advertising boards and ran over to the VW car and tried to open the driver's door (it was locked). As Bruce Arena opined once at a group interview I was in during pre-2002WC camp, players tended to get stupider as you move up the field.
Yeah, going to call BS on that. Most people are demonstrably NOT fine to operate a motor vehicle at 0.15 BAC. It has been tested. MADD does have a ton of lobby power, though.
That dash cam footage in crazy. Lucky no one got hit in a head-on collision. I have zero tolerance for drunk driving. Lost multiple friends to it. And while I've seen drunk drivers before with a little too much in their system, that vid is crazy. Speeding in the far lane around a bend where oncoming traffic would have little chance to react.
Good thing Larin is a Canadian Citizen. Otherwise he would not be admitted entry into the country. Unless MLS can pull those strings. Wait....what the hell am I talking about.
