Regarding fan satisfaction--i think the survey is right on the mark. i went to an NHL game last year and it was tons of fun--healthy, family atmosphere, lots of lights during the entrance, intermission shows and contests, lots of cheering and air horns, respectful and helpful ushers and security, reasonable prices on merchandise (although the food concessions was a different story). When you go to a game they don't make you feel as just another number. MLS offers a similar experience and when i went to the Red Bull game before the game starts they have tons of activities and booths for the people in the lot surrounding the stadium. it was fun to see the little kids playing soccer in an enclosed area (for the kids safety) with a very pretty astro turf surface and mini goals--the kids were excited and i overheard one of the tiny tots say "it's just like when the red bulls play!" The players take the time to talk to the fans both before the game (when they come out to the field to practice) and also after the game is over. I love NFL football, but the stadium experience is something else. You pay parking, you pay extravagant prices on both merchandise and food, no one is interested in helping you at the gates etc. In essence the stadium experience in NFL is impersonal--you're just there to give them your money. And getting out of the stadium after a game is a nightmare.
Put another way, it's, like, way WAY better than bundling up all the games they couldn't get anybody to broadcast and giving them to Mark Cuban for free to put on HDNet.
