We're only two weekends into the season so far, but we're also down to only 41 schools that have yet to taste defeat. At this rate, I figured we might as well get this watch going sooner rather than later! I've listed the next opponent for each team so we can see what speedbumps are upcoming. There are definitely some high intrigue matchups this week. Perfect Records (20 remain): Bowling Green (4-0) 9/9 vs Western Illinois Brown (1-0) 9/8 vs Quinnipiac Clemson (4-0) 9/8 at NC State Davidson (2-0) 9/6 at UNC Asheville Evansville (4-0) 9/7 at Grand Canyon Fairleigh Dickinson (4-0) 9/9 vs Iona Furman (4-0) 9/12 vs UNC Asheville Georgetown (4-0) 9/9 at UConn Gonzaga (3-0) 9/7 vs Washington Indiana (4-0) 9/8 at Maryland Maryland (4-0) 9/8 vs Indiana Michigan State (4-0) 9/8 at Rutgers New Hampshire (4-0) 9/9 vs Columbia Notre Dame (3-0) 9/8 at BC Omaha (4-0) 9/8 vs UC Riverside Pacific (4-0) 9/8 at UNLV SMU (3-0) 9/7 at Stanford Stanford (3-0) 9/7 vs SMU UMass Lowell (3-0) 9/9 at Northeastern Virginia (3-0) 9/8 vs Syracuse Unbeaten (21 remain): Columbia (1-0-1) 9/9 at New Hampshire Delaware (2-0-1) 9/6 at Villanova Detroit (2-0-1) 9/9 vs UIC Duke (3-0-1) 9/8 vs Virginia Tech Elon (2-0-1) 9/8 vs High Point Iona (1-0-1) 9/9 at Fairleigh Dickinson Kentucky (3-0-1) 9/8 vs UAB Louisville (3-0-1) 9/9 vs Wake Forest Michigan (3-0-1) 9/8 vs Wisconsin NJIT (3-0-1) 9/6 at LIU Brooklyn Syracuse (3-0-1) 9/8 at Virginia UMKC (2-0-1) 9/8 vs Memphis West Virginia (3-0-1) 9/9 vs UCF Western Michigan (3-0-1) 9/8 at Butler Belmont (1-0-2) 9/9 at Northern Kentucky FIU (2-0-2) 9/8 Old Dominion Green Bay (1-0-2) 9/9 at Milwaukee Saint Mary's (1-0-2) 9/7 at San Jose State UAB (2-0-2) 9/8 at Kentucky Wisconsin (1-0-2) 9/8 at Michigan Eastern Illinois (1-0-4) 9/10 vs St Francis (Illinois)
If I was looking for upsets: think I'd pick Georgetown to go down to UConn and the same for ND @ BC. We shall see?
SMU, Gonzaga, Evansville, and St Mary's all fell last night. We're down to 36, with a number of head to head matches tonight.
Weekend update: We lost a third of the teams from the list this week. Some of that was to be expected given the number of head to head matches that took place, but there were also some surprises. 28 teams remain, nine of whom have yet to experience anything but victory this season. At least one of them will drop off that list this week when Michigan State hosts Bowling Green. Indiana/Michigan and potentially Fairleigh Dickinson/NJIT are the other battles of the unbeatens that are on the agenda for this week (there could be others, I'm just looking at next match up for now). Perfect Records: Omaha (6-0) 9/15 Northern Illinois Pacific (6-0) 9/15 at UCSB Bowling Green (5-0) 9/13 at Michigan State Fairleigh Dickinson (5-0) 9/16 at NJIT Michigan State (5-0) 9/13 Bowling Green Davidson (4-0) 9/12 High Point Furman (4-0) 9/12 UNC Asheville Notre Dame (4-0) 9/15 NC State Brown (3-0) 9/15 at Tulsa Unbeaten: NJIT (5-0-1) 9/13 at Stony Brook Western Michigan (5-0-1) 9/13 at Oakland Duke (4-0-1) 9/16 at UNC Georgetown (4-0-1) 9/16 at Xavier Indiana (4-0-1) 9/13 Michigan Kentucky (4-0-1) 9/12 Cincinnati Maryland (4-0-1) 9/12 Rutgers Michigan (4-0-1) 9/13 at Indiana New Hampshire (4-0-1) 9/13 Holy Cross Detroit (3-0-1) 9/13 at Fort Wayne Elon (3-0-1) 9/12 at Charlotte Virginia (3-0-1) 9/12 Marquette Syracuse (3-0-2) 9/12 Oregon State West Virginia (3-0-2) 9/13 at UMBC FIU (2-0-2) 9/12 at UCF Green Bay (2-0-2) 9/13 Drake UMKC (2-0-2) 9/12 at Milwaukee Columbia (1-0-2) 9/12 Monmouth Eastern Illinois (2-0-4) 9/13 at Marshall
UC removes UK from this thread. 1-0 win in Lexington for the Bearcats. Did not go without controversy (UK had ball cleared off the line, which supposed/appeared to be over). That would have made game 1-1 with 5 or so minutes left. Back and forth rainy, sloppy match. UK had the better chances. UC with 1 shot on goal and 1 goal. First home loss for UK since October 2015.
The previously winless Gauchos of UCSB upset the previously perfect Tigers of Pacific 1-0, much to Sandon Mibut's chagrin.
Furman goes to 6-0-0 with a 2-1 win over Presbyterian. 2nd come from behind win. 5 of the 6 games have been on the road, and the win at Denver was the first regular season home loss for Denver since Halloween 2014. Team off to a nice start.
Elon remains unbeaten at 3-0-3, with a 1-1 draw at Hofstra. Surprisingly that was only the second goal Elon has give-up all season.
Here's who's left unblemished after this weekend, with their current RPI rank, as of Sunday night's final games. PERFECT 2. Michigan State ----- 7-0-0 3. Notre Dame --------- 5-0-0 4. Furman --------------- 6-0-0 UNBEATEN 6. Fla. International -- 2-0-2 7. Virginia --------------- 5-0-1 8. Fairleigh Dickinson – 5-0-1 10. Columbia ----------- 3-0-2 16. New Hampshire --- 5-0-2 18. Indiana -------------- 5-0-2 25. Maryland ----------- 6-0-1 28. Western Michigan – 7-0-1 29. Elon ------------------- 3-0-3 68. Davidson ------------ 5-0-1
Notre Dame's OOC schedule is unbelievable. Did they know they'd be catching a break on their ACC slate? If they hadn't the schedule would have been truly nightmarish.
If Furman can pull off the win against South Carolina, they have a good chance to go unblemished in the regular season. Their conference besides ETSU is terrible and should be a cake walk.
Unfortunately that won't happen - Furman with a 1-0 loss. Nice run while it lasted. Hopefully can bounce back and do well the rest of the way.
Fairleigh Dickinson and Davidson also fall from the unbeaten. Here are the remaining undefeated teams with their current record and RPI as of Tuesday night's games. WON 'EM ALL 1. Notre Dame --------- 6-0-0 2. Michigan State ----- 7-0-0 UNBEATEN 3. Fla. International -- 3-0-2 5. Virginia --------------- 5-0-1 8. Columbia ----------- 3-0-2 10. New Hampshire --- 5-0-2 21. Indiana -------------- 5-0-2 28. Western Michigan – 7-0-1 30. Maryland ----------- 6-0-1 40. Elon ------------------- 3-0-4
Next up for each team: Western Michigan vs Michigan 9/20 Maryland at Michigan State 9/22 Notre Dame at Virginia Tech 9/22 Indiana vs Rutgers 9/22 Virginia vs UNC 9/22 Columbia at Central Connecticut 9/22 New Hampshire at Quinnipiac 9/23 Elon vs James Madison 9/23 FIU vs Charlotte 9/23
We might actually have an interesting battle in the MAC for the first time in I can't remember how long.
Congratulations to Western, but keep in mind Michigan was playing without 3 of 4 starters on their back line and their best attacking player.
