I wonder if the the Toad stuff is mostly intended for an audience of one person (Melania). It's naturally kind of overshadowed the very interesting claim that Trump not only offered Daniels an Apprentice slot in exchange for sex, but also offered to rig the show in her favor. It's very plausible that Trump made those offers , and it's unlikely that this was the only time that he did so. Seems like that alllegation could be the basis for a lawsuit from past constestants (or wannabe contestants).
The Republican Senators are truly in a bin now. Dr Ford asked for an FBI investigation before appearing before the Judiciary. If they go ahead, ignore her request and vote Kavanaugh, it will be opening a can or worms. Kavanaugh Accuser Wants FBI Investigation First “The woman accusing Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh of sexual assault says the FBI should investigate the incident before senators hold a hearing on the allegations,” CNN reports. Christine Blasey Ford’s attorneys argue that “a full investigation by law enforcement officials will ensure that the crucial facts and witnesses in this matter are assessed in a non-partisan manner, and that the Committee is fully informed before conducting any hearing or making any decisions.” The letter from Ford’s lawyers Ford has also “been the target of vicious harassment and even death threats” and has been forced to leave her home.

To be fair, I think their position is that they had already completed Kavanaugh’s background check and that it wasn’t an appropriate use of FBI resources to investigate a 30-year-old attempted rape accusation that wasn’t in their jurisdiction.. Basically, it’s something local police should investigate, not the FBI.
Oddly enough I was reading that because the polls were wrong in 2016, Republicans trying to motivate moderates by sounding the alarm are struggling as their base now no longer trust the polls. This was a yahoo news article so grain of salt and all.
It’s more a background check than an investigation. They check his criminal record, pull a credit report, review a lengthy questionnaire he submitted, interview him on the stuff they found they have questions on from the criminal record, credit report, or questionnaire, maybe interview some people off a list of names he provided and/or his neighbors, re-interview him if anything curious came up, etc. They aren’t necessarily going to go out perform a criminal investigation on something they find that isn’t in their jurisdiction, but they might refer it to local authorities for them to investigate.
The simple fact is that the executive can obviously ask the FBI to assist in the matter and this is clearly what should happen. So therefore it won't happen. If we go back to basics, convention clearly implies that the executive & senate will bring relevant evidence to the table for consideration. It makes a mockery of the process if such a massive issue isn't investigated due to lack of time or jurisdictional tomfoolery. And clearly the senate is not the right body to go out and investigate the fundamentals of this matter.
It's increasingly hard to perceive the U.S. as a normal democracy: https://www.thebulletin.be/us-arbitrarily-refuses-travel-permits-belgian-lawyers Punishing foreign lawyers for the crime of having afforded due process to terror suspects. Does the U.S. no longer believe in the rule of law?
That is absolutely frightening. I have not seen anything like that reported. Of course, the top story here is that Stormy Daniels stated Donald Trump's penis looks like a mushroom or something. Oh, and the Republicans seem just fine putting someone who has been accused of sexual assault and attempted rape on the Supreme Court.
I should also add that several of the lawyers on the list are among the most well-known and most well-respected in Belgium. Not that it would be any better if this was done to a less high-profile lawyer, but it makes it especially egregious in my humble opinion.
And the funny thing is, that the president may need a new lawyer, and has had a very difficult time finding someone to defend him. He could probably use one of the Belgian lawyers. Especially if they're well-known Defenders of terrorists and other infamous criminals.
Donald Trump absolutely, positively does not; the vast majority of Republican voters and a large minority of independent voters accept what Donald Trump wants, no matter what he wants; and few in Congress (although more in the deep state, God bless the deep state) will stand in Trump's way. So the answer is, kind of, yeah. We no longer fully believe in the rule of law.
This is the catch 22 of fake news. It will take Trump to say that the GOP is losing in the polls - but he won't do that.
