Like everyone else you're not giving Chamberain the credit of knowing we didn't have a standing army or Airforce ready at the time. "You" should thank him for his part in being ready for the Battle of Britain.
Christianity ideally is not a factor in secular nations. So calling them "christan nations" is simply wrong. This repeated idea that christian values somehow lead to current western society is revisionist bullshit. Christianity has been a oppressive force for literally more than 1000 years in some regions of the world. If you stop ignorantly attributing western society as it exists today to Christianity I will stop calling you out for it. Also a question for you: In the last century have "Christian nations" been less murderous and brutal in the pursuit of their ideological and economic interests than the Islamic countries you call out right now?
I must not understand what you're saying, because I don't see how this response is relevant to what I said.
I know. Let's just put a world wide ban on religion. That'll solve everything. Until someone else comes up with a reason for killing ones neighbours.
Russia(ussr), china, north korea, ect. Show that bans do not work, people take their superstitions underground or the religion changes to worship of the dear leader. You can not kill superstition by prohibition, only by education.
Let's be quite clear about something, in the countries with marriage equality, the dominant Christian church opposed marriage equality. Marriage equality was established by the secular government against the wishes of the dominant Christian church. In the USA, the states that voted in marriage did so against the outspoken opposition of the major Christian churches (their are some Christian churches that favored it, for the record). The less church-going the public was, the more likely they would vote in marriage equality (this applies to the states that voted it in, rather than had it determined by courts). The more church-going the public was, the more likely they established state amendments to prohibit marriage equality. This is not Christianity v Islam, this is secularism v religion. I would also say most of those "Christian nations" as you call them are really "post-Christian nations".
Aussie comedian Jim Jefferies is getting a Comedy Central show. So they were showing some of his comedy bits. He pretends to chop a head off and looks at the audience and says "Here's something you never see - 'I do this in the name of...nothing!'" He's an atheist.
I have no animus towards animists. Makes about as much sense as any of these other dumbshit superstitions as far as I can tell.
Replacing the religion in the last sentence of that Sam Harris quote: "The only problem with Christian fundamentalism are [sic] the fundamentals of Christianity." Can't we agree both religions are problematic and that we would be better off without them?
We can and we do. Only thing that we disagree about is that Islam is even more dangerous and harmful at this time and that it's harder to reform (because of the differences between Jesus and Muhammad).
